Some on the LPGA Tour, like Anna Nordqvist, took to social media to share tweets at Captain Annika Sorenstam, pleading their case.

Others, like Paula Creamer, decided to play qualifiers to try to earn more major starts and get noticed by Captain Juli Inkster.

But whatever way golfers are doing it, they’re doing it because they want to be part of the 2017 Solheim Cup.

Nordqvist, for example, had to withdraw from the Ladies Scottish Open last week due to illness, and because of that, she failed to meet the six-tournament requirement to be automatically considering for the European Team. She’ll rely instead on a Captain’s pick for this year.

“Disappointing because I really wanted to play by way onto Annika’s team,” she wrote on Instagram.

However, Nordqvist has a win already on the LPGA Tour this year, and has been a stalwart on past Solheim Cup squads, so it would not be surprising to see her teeing it up.

Same with Creamer, who has been the sparkplug to many-a-team on the U.S. side, and who successfully qualified for this week’s RICOH Women’s British Open after firing a 4-under-par 68 at St. Andrews’ Castle Course.

Creamer sits 20th on the U.S. points standing, and needed to get into this week’s major in order to, hopefully, have a strong finish and get onto the team on merit.

It wouldn’t be surprising as well, though, to see Creamer – with a 14-8-5 record all time at the Solheim Cup – on the squad this fall.

But where does that leave a handful of others who are on the cusp of making the team, some for the first time?

In need of good play, for one.

Motivated by the chance to represent their country, for another.

“Representing my country means the world to me,” says Nelly Korda, who sits 27th on the standings, but has had a standout rookie campaign on the LPGA Tour. “Playing alongside my sister would be huge. It’s definitely a huge goal of mine.”

Korda’s older sister, Jessica, sits fifth on the U.S. standings and is virtually a lock to earn a spot on her second Solheim Cup team, and a few weeks ago, Inkster did say Nelly was on her radar.

“That’s cool,” says Nelly. “It’s a huge goal of mine, but as I’ve said, there are going to be a lot of Solheim Cups and I’m not going to put more pressure on myself to make it this time. I’ve had enough pressure, just it being my rookie year and trying to prove myself out here (on the LPGA TOUR).”

Meanwhile, Angela Stanford – far from a rookie on Tour, having notched five LPGA Tour titles – is looking to make her seventh Solheim Cup team. She sits 10th in the standings.

“If someone says they have no idea where they are (in the standings) they’re lying,” she says. “I’m doing everything I can do to get ready for this week and try not to make it an issue for the captain.”

Stanford, who has seven top-25 finishes at the Women’s British Open in her career and is hoping for another low one this week, admits she has ‘mixed emotions’ about trying to lobby a captain for a spot on the team.

“I don’t know if it’s right,” she says. “I don’t think I’m going to state my case. I could, but I think (Inkster) should listen to people on the team.”

Mo Martin is another golfer who’s hoping a good finish at the Women’s British Open will propel her to the Solheim Cup this year.

Martin, who captured the Women’s British in 2014 (and then finished tied for second in 2016) has a lot of good memories of the tournament this week, and a win would catapult her from 14th on the standings, where she currently is, into almost a locked-up position.

“I’ve got to give it a good push and have a good finish here,” says Martin. “But I’m just enjoying this week and being here at a links course and the British Open… it’s a place I have super fond memories.”

Martin says she’s done everything in her power to get ready for this year’s Solheim Cup and would love the opportunity to represent the U.S.

“It’s been a goal of mine for a long time, but I can’t control the results or what anybody else does,” she explains.

It remains to be seen what either the European or American teams are going to look like for this year’s Solheim Cup, but one thing is for sure: both teams will be filled with golfers who played as best they could to get one of those coveted spots.

“I’m trying to keep my head clear and just go out and play some good golf,” says Korda of her approach to this week, likely echoing what many on the bubble of the Solheim Cup standings are thinking. “If you play good golf, everything takes care of itself.”
