LAKE GENEVA, Wis., May 20, 2017 – The first round of the Red Nose Day Walgreens Charity Championship was canceled Saturday after three inches of rain washed out competition, forcing officials to reduce the event to 18 holes on Sunday.

Twenty-six of 27 groups started the opening round and several groups completed nine holes on the Gary Player Course at Geneva National Resort, but none of the groups were able to finish 18 holes. Heaving pooling on greens and fairways hampered play, with the last few pairings facing heavy, steady rain.

Rules officials deemed the course unplayable, suspending play. The course was evaluated for two hours, but rains never relented and the first round was canceled at 2 p.m. Central Time.

Play will resume on Sunday with the championship being played as an 18-hole event. Sunday’s final round of the Legends Tour event will begin at 8:30 a.m., off the first tee only. Pairings will remain the same, but starting times have been revised.

Tickets are available in area Walgreens stores for $10 per adult. Tickets at the gate will be $15 per adult. Kids 13 and under, as well as active military with IDs, will be admitted free of charge.
