(2) Sei Young Kim Defeats (5) Mi Jung Hur – 5 & 4
Korean golfers Sei Young Kim and Mi Jung Hur squared off in the first match of the semifinals. Kim never trailed en route to her 5 & 4 victory over Hur.
Kim’s approach shot at the first hole left her with a 6-foot birdie opportunity and a chance to take the early 1-Up lead. Kim eagled the 2nd and birdied the 6th, coupled with a few mistakes by Hur, Kim was able to take a 4-Up lead at the turn.
“I played pretty solid today, the first hole I made a birdie and then the next hole I made an eagle so I started really good,” said Kim. “Then I tried to keep focused on what I had to do, it gave me a lot of birdie opportunities, so it was good.”
Her strategy will remain the same as she faces Ariya Jutanugarn in the championship match at 12:45 p.m. CT. Kim is in the hunt for her sixth LPGA victory and first since the 2016 Meijer LPGA Classic.
“The strategy has to be similar as MJ, just to make a lot of birdies, it’s the most important,” said Kim. “Whoever, I know it’ll be a great match.”

(1) Ariya Jutanugarn Defeats (9) Michelle Wie – 4 & 3
Ariya Jutanugarn continues to dominate this week in Mexico City. The Thailand native never trailed – never lost a hole – en route to her 4 & 3 win over American Michelle Wie. She advances to the championship match against Sei Young Kim.
“Feels good, not because I win the match but I work on my control and especially my putting got a lot better than yesterday,” said Jutanugarn.
The two were All Square through five when Jutanugarn drained a birdie putt on the 6th to go 1-Up in the match. After a mistake by Wie on the 8th, Jutanugarn would take a 2-Up lead heading into the final stretch of the match.
“I really focused on what was under my control, so I don’t think about the outcome too much don’t worry about what she’s going to have on that hole and what I’m going to make,” explained Jutanugarn.
She plans to rest and practice on her putting ahead of the final match against Sei Young Kim.
