Belén Mozo’s fans just can’t get enough.
The Spaniard has more than 100,000 followers on Twitter and Instagram where she shares everything from her puppy’s birthday to books she’s reading to workout videos. And while her fans have loved getting a small glimpse into Mozo’s life through social media, her fans wanted more.
In September, Mozo launched a new blog simply titled, BELÉN.
“I have been told by my numerous fans that it could be interesting to launch a blog and talk about many things I normally do on a daily basis,” Mozo told LPGA.com. “With BELÉN, I thought I could have a more transparent and personal voice where I could expand on topics I find interesting for my fans to learn about me.”
Fans are welcomed by a sleek, clean design with a white background and black text. The homepage features tabs on the topics Mozo plans to cover: golf, wellness, travel and beauty. She is managing the blog on her own and well aware of the demands that come with regularly maintain and updating a website with new content. She structured a plan and stockpiled content in advance of the site’s launch so she wouldn’t be caught off guard during the week of a Tournament without any content to share.
“The wise thing will be to hire someone to help me with it since BELÈN is important to me,” Mozo said via email. “But I have so much content sitting [around] and every day new stuff comes up my mind! And that's the challenge! To make this blogging thing work, you need structure. I have tons of content ready, but I also have tons more in my head that I don't know where to [store] it!”
Mozo launched the fitness section of her blog with an explanation of why she works out and provides some insightful analysis on why she considers golf a sport rather than a game. She also draws contrasts between the physical demands of golf as compared to other sports.
What I really want to catch your attention with is how unathletic and unnatural a golf swing is. Picture a tennis player set up waiting to receive a serve, or a goalie waiting to stop a penalty. They will have almost all weight in their toes, a lot more knee bend and their body more leaning forward. The golfer stance is not what I call an athletic posture. We have less knee bend that any other athlete in position to engage. The lack of knee bend creates a certain unprotected posture for our lower back.
But this isn’t the first time Mozo has shared her insights online. She was featured in a video workout series by Golf Digest, which has received nearly 30,000 views on YouTube. Well aware her fitness regime is likely more advanced that the average fan is accustomed, Mozo made sure to include a little inspiration in her blog.
I firmly believe you can get tired physically but keep pushing because of your mind. But if your mind gives up before your body, YOU ARE DONE my friend. Your body might have a limit, but there is no limits for your mind! How beautiful is to think that way?
“Weekly Workout with B” is a recurring video series Mozo launched along with her weekly blog posts “to hit the most fundamental areas to work on your body to either play better or look better.” The first installment, advanced front planks, isn’t for the faint of heart. It features Mozo balancing in a plank position on a medicine ball with alternating leg raises.
Hey, nobody said getting fit like Mozo was going to be easy.
“I love the creativity behind shooting the videos and then editing them. Granted, I don't have the time or resources to make it look [as] sharp as I would have. That's what professional bloggers will do. But I am a professional golfer, I just blog for fun!”
What’s more impressive, Mozo’s blog is bilingual. She posts in both English and Spanish.
“I always loved to write and read,” Mozo says about her reason for blogging. “The bigger I grow my audience of fans, the wider reach I could have and that motivates me because I think some of the stuff I mean to share about my life as a pro athlete can help and guide others.”
