Wednesday afternoon, Michelle Wie took to social media to announce she is withdrawing from the season’s final major, the Evian Championship. Three weeks ago, Wie withdrew from the final round of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open to have emergency surgery to remove her appendix and was unsure whether she’d be ready to compete in France.

@themichellewie: “Unfortunately my doctors have advised me to continue resting which means I have to withdraw from @evianchamp next week. It breaks my heart to do so because there is nothing more I want right now than to be able to compete. I love the Evian Championship and it holds a special place in my heart. I grew up playing this championship and I can't wait to get back next year. As soon as the docs say I’m fully recovered, I will be back practicing and playing, but for now I’m going to listen to them and lay low. Hope everyone in Florida stays safe during this hurricane.”

Wie has been a trendsetter of sorts, especially when it comes to her shoe game, making famous the Nike high tops she sports in a variety of styles and patterns. At the Solheim Cup she rocked a Swarovski covered pair. Her influence has spread to the PGA Tour, where PGA Champion Justin Thomas will be sporting a patriotic pair when he represents Team USA at the Presidents Cup at the end of the month. He shared on Twitter a special thank you to Wie for the new kicks.
