Lori White has volunteered at the CP Women’s Open both times the Tour has visited Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, which is also her home course. White did such a good job in 2008 as the Chair of Communications that she was elevated to the Tournament Co-Chair for the 2017 event.
For her contributions to the CP Women’s Open, White is the recipient of the 2018 XL Catlin Volunteer Service Award.
The perfect example of White’s eagerness to be the best Tournament Co-Chair possible came in 2016. In advance of the 2017 event back in Ottawa, she took time out of her busy schedule to fly across the country and attend the 2016 CP Women’s Open in Calgary to better understand the scope of organizing her volunteers. White also played a pivotal role in enlisting 49 members of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club to manager 20 volunteer committees. She also spearheaded the recruitment of 1,200 volunteers.
White proved to be a great Tournament Co-Chair. She attended all the preliminary meetings and site visits with Golf Canada, CP and the LPGA to ensure she was aware of all the latest developments and then conducted weekly meetings with all the volunteers. She was always available to provide updates and streamline any questions or concerns for Golf Canada.
White was so exemplary that Golf Canada is now using her as a best practices model for future Tournament Co-Chairs.
“From the players, the LPGA staff, Golf Channel staff, Golf Canada staff, spectators and the volunteers, it is an event that is positive and exciting,” said White. “It is a team of all these people that make it fun to be a part of and experience success together.”
Golf has been a integral part of her life for a long time. She has volunteered at her home course for 21 years in a variety of roles including on the board from 2008 through 2016. In fact, in 2012, she became the first female president of the club.
Since the tournament this year is in Saskatchewan, White will enjoy the Golf Channel coverage and root for her favorite player. Any guesses? Of course it is Brooke Henderson.
