Portland, Oregon – Gigi Stoll Wins Portland Classic Amateur Open and a Spot in LPGA Tournament.
University of Arizona senior and Beaverton, Oregon native, Gigi Stoll, won the Portland Classic Amateur Open yesterday earning the opportunity to compete against LPGA professionals with a spot in the Cambia Portland Classic. Stoll turned in a five-under par round of 67 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon to capture the title. This is the third time Stoll has won the Amateur Open (2014 and 2015). Stoll still holds the Amateur Open tournament record from when she carded a nine-under par 63 at Langdon Farms Golf Club during the 2015 Portland Classic Amateur Open.
Earlier this summer, Stoll captured the 117th Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur Championship hosted by the PNGA. Stoll has been named PNGA Women’s Player of the Year three times (2014,
2015, 2017) and has also won the Oregon Women’s Amateur three times (2014, 2015, 2017). Stoll will now take on the best female golfers in the world at the Cambia Portland Classic starting August 30th, 2018 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
Stoll finished four strokes ahead of Olivia Benzin of Oregon State University who carded a one-under par 71. Benzin earned herself an opportunity to play in the Portland Classic’s Monday LPGA qualifying round, along with Sarah Rhee from the University of Washington who shot even par 72 and Nicole Schroder from Oregon State University who finished at one-over par 73.

Additionally, Tournament Organizers have extended a sponsor’s invitation for the 2018 Cambia Portland Classic to Karen Stupples from Kent, England. Stupples retired from the LPGA in 2014 and now serves as an on-course reporter and analyst for Golf Channel’s Coverage of the LPGA Tour. Stupples has two LPGA Tour victories, including the 2004 Women’s British Open.
The Cambia Portland Classic will be held from August 30 through September 2 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon. The 72-hole event features the top women professional golfers from around the world, competing for a purse of $1.3 million. All four rounds of the Portland Classic will be broadcast to over 170 countries on the Golf Channel. The tournament’s professional qualifying round will be held on Monday, August 27.
