DORADO, Puerto Rico – Although Belen Mozo made an appearance at the Puerto Rico Open Charity Pro-Am this week as a key member of the LPGA Tour contingent that helped raise more than $500,000 for local charities, you may not see her back on the LPGA Tour for the immediate future.
Mozo, who made the cut at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic but was well back of the cut at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, told LPGA.com Saturday at TPC Dorado Beach that she will be speaking with the LPGA Tour on Monday about some options for the balance of the season, as she’s suffering from an injured hip
The 29-year-old had her best finish of the year at her final event of 2017, a tie for fifth at the MCKAYSON New Zealand Women’s Open and was really great heading into 2018. She said she had a good rest during the winter and was feeling strong leading into the season opener, but she hurt herself on the last day of the off-season.
“I was playing really good golf coming into the Bahamas and I wasn’t able to finish that week. My hip was really hurting, and after that I wasn’t able to do anything,” she said.
Mozo flew to Australia but knew something was wrong there. She said it’s a situation where the diagnosis isn’t clear and it’s probably going to take a long time to heal.
“I’m in a very uncomfortable situation not knowing when I can get back,” she said.
