Lexi Thompson is playing a limited schedule over the closing stretch of the 2018 season, but she’s adding one special event to her calendar this Fall.
Tuesday, Thompson committed for the third consecutive year to competing at the QBE Shootout in Naples, Fla. Thompson remains the only female in the field at the team event, which is made up primarily of members of the PGA Tour. In 2016, Thompson became the first female since Annika Sorenstam in 2006 to compete in the event.
“The QBE Shootout is such a great event, and I had an absolute blast playing the last two years,” Thompson told LPGA.com via email. “The players and fans have been so nice to me. I was really excited to be invited back again!”
In 2016, Thompson was paired with Bryson Dechambeau and the pair finished T11 in the 12-team competition. In 2017, Thompson found more success alongside Tony Finau. The paired finished T4 and will team up again this year.
“I’m super excited about that. Tony is fun to play with, and he’s been playing fantastic this year,” Thompson said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
The event will be held December 5 – 9 at Tiburón Golf Club, the same venue that hosts the LPGA’s season ending CME Group Tour Championship where Thompson finished runner-up in 2017.
“Playing in this event has given me a deeper appreciation for how talented these guys are,” Thompson said. “Not only can they hit it a mile, but they have all the shots. It’s awesome to see it done up close.”
