SEATTLE, March 26, 2019 – LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer Juli Inkster will headline the field in June at The Legends Tour’s Suquamish Clearwater Legends Cup presented by The Boeing Company.
Inkster is one of four World Golf Hall of Fame members committed to compete June 6-8, at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort’s White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, Wash. It will be the Californian’s first appearance in this event.
She will be joined by Washington native and fellow Hall of Famer JoAnne Carner, 2019 Hall of Fame inductee Jan Stephenson, and Hollis Stacy.
“I absolutely love playing in the Pacific Northwest and I’m looking forward to returning to the Seattle area,” said Inkster, winner of 31 LPGA tournaments, including wins at the LPGA’s 1983 and 1988 Safeco Classic. “I have such great memories of playing there and winning my first LPGA tournament in the Seattle area in 1983.”
The tournament’s pro-am is set for Thursday, June 6, followed by the 36-hole professional competition on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8. Players will compete for a $200,000 purse.
The event will feature a field of 36 Legends, including defending champion Trish Johnson of Great Britain and veteran LPGA Tour stars, including Jane Geddes, Pat Hurst, Legends Hall of Fame member Rosie Jones, Canada’s Lorie Kane, Michelle McGann and 13-time LPGA winner Liselotte Neumann of Sweden.
In addition, four-time LPGA Tour winner Wendy Ward of Edwall, Wash., will also compete in this year’s event, as well as Suzy Whaley, who, in 2018, became the first woman president of the PGA of America.
Six more players will be added to the field and four top area amateurs also will be invited to play alongside the Legends.
Washington has hosted the LPGA Tour and women’s professional golf for nearly four decades. From 1982-1999, the Evergreen State hosted the Safeco Classic at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash. In addition to Inkster, past Safeco Classic champions in this year’s tournament field will include Brandie Burton (1993), Jan Stephenson (1987), and JoAnne Carner (1985).
