Azahara Munoz capped off her 10^thvisit to the first tournament she ever played in as a professional on the LPGA Tour with a five under round, resulting in her best finish of the season at T2. Her game is peaking, with a 63 at the Founder’s Cup the previous week matching her career best. It’s the 10-year veteran’s fourth top 10 finish in her last six events, with her game the best it has been since she revealed on LPGA.com’s On The Tee Podcast that she had been dealing with Hashimoto’s disease. It had been affecting her for a few years before realizing what her condition was. The disease is a thyroid condition that causes fatigue and anxiety.

With her ongoing recovery giving her more energy and feeling better each day, she’s been able to hone in on her golf game. Munoz has been able to practice regardless of how she feels any given day. “Things have been clicking, my attitude has been a bit better as well. Everything’s adding up,” She explained.

Her health’s return has allowed Munoz to focus on the important parts of her game, setting goals for her swing. Trusting the process has kept Munoz focused on finding another win.

She has one career victory to her name, coming in May 2012 at the Sybase Match Play Championship. The winner’s circle has been evasive thereafter, as Munoz has been within five shots of the lead 21 times since, including this week where she sat at (-10) into the final round.

Despite the multiple opportunities, her confidence has not been affected, keeping the chances in perspective.

“Obviously the goal is winning, and I would love to hold a trophy again. But I think I’m doing the right things. The more times I put myself in that situation, the more chances I’m going to give myself. I believe eventually it’s going to happen,” she explained.

Munoz tees it up at her fourth career ANA Inspiration next week, looking for another chance.
