On the heels of her successful title defense in Shanghai, Danielle Kang received another special recognition. Monday afternoon at City Hall, Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Keo-don Oh bestowed the three-time LPGA Tour winner with honorary citizenship in recognition of her special connection to the beachside town. Danielle’s father Kye-sung was from Busan and their family spent several years of Danielle’s childhood living in the coastal town, where she attended Shingaegeum Elementary School.
“It means a lot to be to be recommended as an honorary citizen of Busan City, home to my father and with childhood memories,” Kang said. “I'm really honored to the fact that there's a BMW Ladies Championship in Korea. I didn't think that was something that was possible. Never dreamt of it. Thankful for the opportunity and I'm glad to be back here.”
Kang is visiting the Republic of Korea for the inaugural BMW Ladies Championship at LPGA International Busan. She says some of her fondest memories of living in Busan with her father included buying hodduk and walnut cookies from a cart while visiting the international market. Her father died of cancer in 2013.
