Michelle Wie took to Instagram to announce that she’s taking the rest of the season off to let her wrist heal.
“After doing everything I could to play this year, I have made the decision to take the rest of the year off from competitive golf. My team and I believe that this will give me the best chance to finally get healthy. I can’t thank you all enough for all the love and support. Means the world to me,” Wie posted.
The five-time LPGA winner had the operation on her wrist in October of last year, after having had three cortisone shots before the surgery to manage the pain she dealt with in all of 2018.
Wie’s given it her all this season to try and play. Wie had taken two previous breaks to give her wrist injury time to heal during the 2019 season.
She withdrew from the HSBC Women’s World Championship in February. She returned for the ANA Inspiration and LOTTE Championship. She announced she would not be playing in the US Women’s Open, then returned two months later for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
