Longest-standing non-major LPGA event moves to September 17-20
PORTLAND, OR (March 20, 2020) – The 49th edition of the Cambia Portland Classic announced today that it will be staged one week later than previously scheduled, moving to September 17-20 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
As a result of recent LPGA schedule changes, the Cambia Portland Classic, which was won by Australian major-winner Hannah Green last year, was last hosted in this spot in the Tour’s calendar in 2004, having previously been played in mid-September in the mid 80’s and 90’s.
The event, which is known for standout winners with former champions including ten-time major winner Annika Sorenstam, hall of famer Lorena Ochoa, Solheim Cup hero Suzann Pettersen and, more recently, Canada’s most successful golfer, Brooke Henderson is only one year shy of an incredible 50 years of staging and is looking to secure another stellar field this year.
With nine tournaments on the LPGA calendar now cancelled, Cambia has their sights set on inviting those tournament partners into the Cambia Portland Classic in their continued efforts to support the LPGA and Portland communities.
Cambia CEO, Mark Ganz, said, “We intend to reach out to specific sponsors of cancelled tournaments and invite them to participate with us in the Classic this year, in a creative way to respond to the extraordinary events of this year and do what we can to ensure the LPGA remains the strong professional organization it has become, while providing the opportunity to showcase the beauty and culture of Portland and the Pacific NW.”
