Last week, three-time LPGA Tour winner and major champion Danielle Kang appeared on the No Laying Up podcast, where she gave an update on her current plans at home and answered questions from fans. Kang most recently played in the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio, where she finished third.
“So far, I haven’t played much golf. Courses are open but as of right now I’m quarantined,” said Kang, who is home in Las Vegas. “I putt a little bit in my room, and I try to do empty swings-practice swings in my mirror but other than that, not much golf. However, I’ve been off since January, so I was playing a lot of golf until recently.”
Fans submitted questions to No Laying Up through Twitter. One follower asked about her recent success with coach Butch Harmon, who has helped players like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Natalie Gulbis and many more top professionals on the PGA and LPGA Tour. She said Dustin Johnson first encouraged her to work with Harmon in 2014, but she ultimately decided she would “go when the time comes.” Since their first session, Kang said she hasn’t looked back.
“He got me to No. 4 in the world in less than a year and a half,” said Kang, who finished third place or better in four of her last five events. “I just do what he says. It’s as simple as that…He’s kind of a crazy genius. I was having a lot of problems before I went to him, and that was in the fall of 2018. I made one of nine cuts before I went to him, so I missed eight cuts. Missed the final cut at The Evian Championship, and I just couldn’t keep it in the fairway. I started with him, I finished third, and then I won.”
