Everyone can agree that 2020 has been the year of the unexpected. People have had to learn how to adapt, take risks, even break away from certain routines that we may have grown accustomed to. Just ask the 1,800 LPGA Professionals members.
When the world seemingly shut down back in March, many LPGA Professionals found themselves without access to their lesson tee. With most unable to step on the course, they found creative solutions to keep their students engaged.
The LPGA Professionals Media and Marketing Committee stepped up with many ideas, including a new Facebook Live series for not just their fellow members, but for parents and families that were also making the transition to at-home learning. With sessions ranging from Golf for Kids, Golf Fitness, and Business, there was something for everyone. Even if you did not have golf clubs with you, you could still participate as instructors offered fun household and sport alternatives such as toilet paper, buckets, wooden spoons, plastic baseball bats, and more.
As LPGA Professionals continued to find new ways to share their knowledge, the LPGA Lunch Lessons were born. Hosted on NEC Univerge Blue, the eSeries has featured Golf Channel Commentator/Analyst Kay Cockerill and a variety of LPGA Professionals members. In each session, viewers are given 30 minutes to relax and enjoy their lunch while gaining professional tips and insights to improve their game at home.
LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Site Directors took to their computers to host virtual clinics over Zoom and Google Hangouts. They came up with fun activities to keep their students engaged as they learned not just new golf skills, but valuable life lessons. Some of the creative solutions included LPGA trivia, virtual “pet parades” with introductions of furry friends, book clubs, scavenger hunts, and meet-and-greets with LPGA Tour players. One site even got a special surprise from LPGA Founder Shirley Spork. Girls Golf members across the country got to enjoy the creativity of their instructors, who showed that the program truly is about more than golf.
When your life’s work is teaching others, you find a way. And the LPGA Professionals have certainly found numerous ways to continue to inspire and empower others this year, on and off the course.
