It was a much-needed moving day showing by two-time LPGA Tour winner Georgia Hall. A bogey-free 65 placed her name among the contenders at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. Hall hit 15 greens in regulation and used 27 putts on Saturday to shoot 7-under par.
“Good conditions today, as in no wind. Yeah, we had spots of rain but I managed to play very steady and hole my fair share of putts,” said Hall, who is -14 overall. “I’m very happy with the round and obviously if you can keep bogeys off the card, all the better.”
Hall hopes to join Lexi Thompson (2015), Brooke Henderson (2017, 2019) and So Yeon Ryu (2018) as major champions to go on and win at Blythefield Country Club, while winners Mirim Lee (2014) and Sei Young Kim (2016) secured their first major title after winning the Meijer LPGA Classic.
“This golf course always brings out the best players and it’s a very strong field this week,” Hall said. “The course is mostly about approach shots and putting, really committing to every shot and today I really did that well. I think that is why major champions do win around here.
“You never know around this course, but I have given myself the best chance for tomorrow. My goal at every tournament is to be in contention. It will be a good test tomorrow.”
