With only four events left in the 2021 Epson Tour season, the top-10 in the Race for the Card is taking form. Lilia Vu was named the first Member this year to officially clinch a LPGA Tour Card for the 2022 season. Following her is six-time Epson Tour Champion, Ruixin Liu.
This season was one to remember for Liu as she kicked off the year with her first playoff as a professional. Globally known amateur, Rose Zhang, put up a good fight at the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic, but ultimately Liu took home the champion title in Arizona. From there, Liu followed suit with another playoff only two events later and claimed her second win this season at the Casino del Sol Golf Classic.
“That’s so nice to hear that I am officially in the top-10 this season. After the season [on the LPGA Tour] in 2019, my confidence was affected a lot not being able to stay out there. Winning the first two out of three tournaments this season and being able to work towards my goal of finishing top-10 this season really helped build it back up a lot. I am so excited for next year to have a chance to prove myself.”
In 2018, Liu claimed six top-10 finishes leading her to both become Player of the Year and graduate onto the LPGA Tour.
“I think for me, the Epson Tour is the biggest reason why I can be playing on the LPGA Tour. I’ve seen the purses grow significantly in the last couple of years and we should all be appreciative for all the sponsors who help make it happen. Also, if you are someone who wants to maybe play on the Epson Tour in the future, I think this is a great platform to prepare us for the LPGA Tour. Without this Tour we are not going to play tournaments as regularly and be able simulate what life is going to be on the LPGA, so I think this is the best choice you could make to prepare for it.”
Liu returned home to China and will not be competing for the remainder of the 2021 Epson Tour season and is grateful for those near and far who helped her achieve all her successes finding her way back to the LPGA Tour.
“My parents have helped me all the way through, especially my dad. He has been carrying the bag for me and coming to all the events. I also really must thank my sponsors because they stuck with me and believed I could get back [to the LPGA] again. Just appreciate everyone trusting in me and helping me get to who I am today.”
“It feels so good to be home, have some home cooking and see some friends. I am really enjoying it right now and looking forward to my event here coming up.”
