LPGA Q-Series is just Na Rin An’s second competitive appearance in the United States, joining a tie for 63rd at the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open. While the 25-year-old may be new to an American audience, she is certainly well known in her native Republic of Korea.
An started playing golf at age 15, still young but certainly older than the average professional golfer. She had dabbled in other sports but said that golf was more than just an athletic option. “I wanted to experience a lot of different cultures and I thought that golf was fitting in that area,” she said, ready to embrace the globe-hopping lifestyle of a professional golfer. “It's why I started playing golf.” She looked to major champion Na Yeon Choi as her role model when she was a young player.
An has been a member of the KLPGA Tour since 2017, with victories at the 2020 Autech Carrier Championship and the 2020 Hana Financial Group Championship. In 2021, she had 15 top-20 finishes, with runner-up showings at the NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship and the Dongbu Construction · KOREIT Championship. In October, An even made her presence known on the LPGA Tour with a tie for third at the BMW Ladies Championship, sitting atop the leaderboard after the first and second rounds.
Now at LPGA Q-Series, An is again leading the field, sitting in a tie for first at -9 through two rounds with LPGA Tour status on the line. “It's a tour that I've always wanted to challenge myself on playing,” said An. “It's why I'm here.”
