Even a month off from LPGA Tour competition can’t slow Minjee Lee.
She has three top-5 finishes in her last four starts, including the maiden major title of her career at the Amundi Evian Championship. The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G is her first event since the AIG Women’s Open on August 22, but Lee has picked up right where she left off.
“I really, really needed that month off. Two weeks felt like two days pretty much, so I didn't touch a club for 15 days. Practiced the last two weeks and then came here,” said Lee, who carded a bogey-free 63 in the second round at Pinnacle Country Club to reach -12 through 36 holes.
This week marks Lee’s seventh appearance in Rogers, Ark., and the six-time LPGA Tour champion has never missed a cut with four top-10 results. Lee will look to add a fifth tomorrow at a place she is “very familiar with.”
“Coming into the tournament after a month off, I'm feeling pretty fresh and just wanted to post a couple good scores,” Lee said. “I have great [host] housing here, so really love coming back. The hospitality and fans are always great. I think that really makes the tournament special and I really like coming back.”
