The famed Lew Crew was out in force on Saturday at the Marathon LPGA Classic, and they witnessed a gem of a round from their favorite player. Stacy Lewis was born in Toledo and while she has since adopted Texas as her home state, Ohio and her family that remains here will always be close to her heart. She only missed two greens in a bogey-free round of 6-under 65 in the third round, which tied the final round of the Kia Classic for her best round of 2021.
“Probably one of the most solid rounds of golf I've played all year,” said Lewis. “Just lots of fairways, lots of greens. Hit a lot of good putts that didn't go in.”
A win in her birthplace would be extra special to Lewis, who easily has the largest fan following whenever she sets foot on the grounds. She’s already joked that she’ll jump in the Highland Meadows pool if she pulls it off, and it feels like the fans would never calm down if she hoists the trophy.
“The Lew Crew has grown over the years. We got little babies involved now and everybody is kind of different points in their life,” said Lewis of the family pack that annually makes the trek to Highland Meadows. “But it's just great that they keep coming back every year and watching me and supporting me. I don't have to worry about a meal this week. They take care of all of our dinners and Chesnee gets to go swimming, so all is good in our world.”
