On Friday evening, moments after finishing her third round at 2021 Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, Thailand star Jasmine Suwannapura found herself saying YES to a lifetime of bliss when her boyfriend Mike Thomas got down on one knee and proposed on the 18th green at Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando.
“Today couldn’t get any better!! I said YES!! to the most loving and caring guy I know,” Suwannapura said on her social media accounts not long after the momentous event. Suwannapura had helped pick out the ring weeks ago, but did not know when the actual proposal would come.
“He didn't say when or anything at all. Not at all,” said Suwannapura following her 2-under 69 on Saturday. “He did talk to a couple of my friends, but they were all like very secret. Like I have no idea, but they act very secretly. Like what are you guys talking about? ‘Oh, nothing. Nothing you need to know.’”
The two-time LPGA Tour champion, who now makes her home in Northern Virginia, met Thomas on the online dating service Bumble.
“[Had] been talking to him for almost two months without seeing each other online until we met. It takes a long time and a lot of patience nowadays with online dating,” said Suwannapura, who used an alias until she considered Thomas was a “decent guy.” “I told him I'm not a golfer. I told him ‘I'm an event coordinator. I travel.’” She eventually showed him her Instagram page so Thomas, an engineer by trade, could see her real jet-setting life.
Now, two years since they met, Thomas repaid the sneakiness by planning the secret proposal. When presented with the silver banded, three-stoned ring, Suwannapura found herself thinking of only one word – Yes.
“Mike himself, he’s very nervous and I can see it,” she said with a loving smile. “I kind of expected, but not this soon. It’s just right. Of course, yes, I will say yes.”
