Celine Boutier continues to impress during the LPGA Tour’s season-opening Florida swing. The Frenchwoman collected back-to-back top-5 finishes at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio to open her2022 Tour campaign. Now, through 36 holes in the LPGA Drive On Championship at Crown Colony Golf & Country Club, Boutier is primed to make it three straight.
“I think the key is that I have to be consistent throughout the season, not just for a couple weeks,” said Boutier, who is tied for ninth at 7-under par overall. “I'm trying to start over each week. Even if there was a good or great week, a bad week the week before, I just start over the following week and try to do the best I can.
“The more consistent I am, then I’ll be at the top and the better my chances of winning tournaments.”
Reflecting on her 2021 efforts during the offseason, there was one aspect the two-time LPGA Tour champion focused on improving. “I feel pretty good about my weekends, to be honest. It was something I struggled a bit with last year,” Boutier said after a 5-under 67 in the second round on Friday. “I had a lot of tournaments where I played well the first two days, and then it's not always easy to be either in the lead or in contention, especially the last two rounds.
“The last two weeks have kind of proved that I got better at that. I feel like I handled it better. I think it's only going to help me the rest of this season and my career because you have to put yourself out there. Then you feel more comfortable, confident, and know that you can pull it off.”
