Las Vegas, Nev. may be her place of residence, but for Danielle Kang, a night or two among friends feels just as much like home. And that is exactly what Kang said she needed after walking away with her sixth Tour victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions last week and turning her attention to a third appearance in the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio. Friends who are like family to her - Wayne and Janet Gretzky - who now have a place in West Palm Beach.
“I'm going to say that I went home because the Gretskys now live in Florida and they're like my second family. Stayed over at their house and ate a home-cooked meal. Janet cooked us a really nice dinner.
I played golf with them in the morning on Tuesday and it was Wayne's birthday yesterday, so we had hibachi. I just like seeing family,” said Kang. “They kind of re-ground me, and it doesn't feel like I’ve been on the road for a couple weeks already.”
After golf with the Gretzkys, Kang received a few celebratory words from NBA global icon Michael Jordan.
“He comes up and says, ‘Hi,’ and, ‘Hey, DK, you won last week, congrats.’ I'm just staring at him. This is Michael Jordan. It's so cool,” said Kang. “Yeah, to be honest, I'm just so thankful for my friends. I just felt like I actually went home, and that makes me happy.”
