Bronte Law spent the offseason in Barbados. Why? “Why not?” she grinned after the first day of the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio. She said she focused on her physical strength with runs up and down monstrous hills around the island, as well as her mental fortitude.
“When you stand over a golf ball, all of a sudden feels a lot easier than when I think about running up that hill. She’s starting to see the fruits of her labor in Boca Raton, where Law is in a tie for fifth position at -6. The Englishwoman will play Saturday alongside major champion Yuka Saso and 2022 Tour rookie Morgane Metraux.
“I'm pleased with how I'm hitting it, so gained a lot of confidence out there today,” said Law, who rebounded after a double bogey on No. 16, her seventh hole of the day. “Obviously, confidence breeds good mental like, kind of headspace, so just hoping that my performance the last couple days will help me tomorrow when it sounds like it's going to be British weather.”
That British weather that may rear its head on Saturday includes winds between 15-20 mph and gusts predicted to hit 30 mph. The Stockport native relishes the thoughts of the challenge Saturday might bring.
“The fact that I've done it growing up a lot, obviously it's just like another day. I wouldn't say that it would bother me too much, but certainly a couple shots that I've practiced growing up that will help me out there,” Law said.
