Isi Gabsa was “quite outside of the cut line” when she began her second round at ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer on Saturday afternoon. The German was +3 after day one but, clearly, she was not discouraged heading into moving day.
“I always see it as one day at a time,” she said. “I'm not really seeing it as moving day. It's just one day and you just want to win that one day. If you do win on that one day, you did a good job.”
Gabsa shot 7-under 64 on Saturday, recording the best round of the tournament so far and jumping up the leaderboard from T109 to T14. The seven birdies, two bogeys and eagle on her Saturday scorecard were in stark contrast to the four bogeys, one double bogey and just two birdies that she made the day before. Throughout the second round, the 27-year-old realized the birdie chances were there but was so focused she hardly noticed her score had rapidly dropped.
“I just wanted to stay patient and give myself couple of birdie chances, and there are quite a few wedge shots in where I knew, okay, I can get my birdies,” she said. “Then I just started to putt good, started to hit them close, and then all of a sudden I'm like 7-under going through the round.”
