Two-time Olympian, 2016 Gold medalist and LPGA Hall of Fame member Inbee Park was announced as one of 32 candidates for the IOC Athletes’ Commission (IOC AC) election which will take place during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The IOC AC, which ensures athletes’ viewpoints remain at the heart of the Olympic Movement decisions, consists of a diverse representation from various sports and National Olympic Committees to ensure their peers are supported in every aspect of their careers.
Park, 35, was nominated by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and is the only golfer among the 32 Olympians who will seek election to an eight-year term.
A 21-time LPGA Tour winner and former World No. 1, Park claimed seven major titles, including the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open, which she won as a 19-year-old. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Park claimed a five-stroke victory over Lydia Ko shortly after being named the youngest addition to the LPGA’s Hall of Fame. She returned to represent Korea at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Four candidates from four different sports will be elected directly by their peers to the IOC AC. All athletes competing at Paris 2024 are eligible to vote in the Athlete365 House in the Olympic Villages during next summer’s Olympic Games.
If successful, Park would then be elected by the IOC Session as a member of the IOC and will serve a term of eight years as a member.
