EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France | The Amundi Evian Championship has a stacked 132-player field this week that will be vying for a $6.5 million purse and a $1 million first-place check this week as the event celebrates its 10th anniversary as a major championship. Eight past champions as well as all 15 2023 LPGA Tour winners are set to tee it up in Evian-les-Bains, a deep pool of talent that will be fun to watch tackle Evian Resort Golf Club. Here’s a look at some of the featured groups this week at the Amundi Evian Championship.

Thursday, 7:51 a.m.* – Hinako Shibuno/Celine Boutier/Charley Hull

Three LPGA Tour winners make up the 7:51 a.m. group that’s set to go off the par-4 10th hole on Thursday. Hinako Shibuno captured her first and only LPGA Tour title as a non-member at the AIG Women’s Open in 2019, defeating Lizette Salas by just a single shot. Declining the automatic LPGA Tour Membership that is offered to non-members who win on Tour, Shibuno became a 2022 LPGA Tour rookie after finishing in the top 45 and ties at 2021 LPGA Q-Series. So far this season, the Japan native has recorded one top-10 finish, a tie for seventh at the LPGA Drive On Championship at Superstition Mountain, and one additional top 20, a solo 17th at the DIO Implant LA Open.

Frenchwoman Celine Boutier won that week in the Arizona desert at the LPGA Drive On Championship, outlasting fellow European Georgia Hall in a playoff to capture her third LPGA Tour title and become the winningest French player in the history of the organization. Since her win at Superstition Mountain, Boutier has recorded four other top-15 results, most notably finishing in a tie for 14th at The Chevron Championship and most recently finished T3 at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational alongside partner Yuka Saso. While she’s never finished better than T29 in the Amundi Evian Championship, the 29-year-old does have experience winning in her home country, taking home the Lacoste Ladies Open de France in 2021.

Charley Hull wowed with her 6-under 66 on Sunday at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links and it was that score that propelled her up the leaderboard and into a tie for second come day’s end. It was her second runner-up result of the 2023 season as the Englishwoman also finished in a tie for second at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. She has one other top 10 on her resume this year, a tie for seventh at the LPGA Drive On Championship. She’s only missed one cut at the Amundi Evian Championship in 2013 and grabbed her best finish in the 2022 edition of the event where she wound up in a tie for third.

Thursday, 8:15 a.m.* – Linn Grant/Brooke Henderson/Atthaya Thitikul

Linn Grant won the most recent stroke-play event on the LPGA Tour, becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the Dana Open at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio. The Swede finished with a four-day total of 21-under, carding all four rounds in the 60s, including a first-round 64 and a third-round 62. Grant is one of few players in the field at the Amundi Evian Championship that has won at Evian Resort Golf Club, capturing the Jabra Ladies Open title earlier this year on the Ladies European Tour. She also played well in the 2022 edition of this major championship, finishing in a tie for eighth after firing a 7-under 64 on the final day.

Canadian Brooke Henderson is defending this week, having captured her then 12th LPGA Tour victory and second major title at last year’s Amundi Evian Championship, making a birdie on the par-5 18th hole to win by one stroke over Sophia Schubert. The 25-year-old picked up her 13th win on Tour earlier this season at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, but hasn’t done a whole lot since, recording four top-20 finishes the most notable of which is a solo 12th at the U.S. Women’s Open. Henderson has found the top 10 at this event two other times in her seven total starts, finishing in a tie for ninth in 2016 and a tie for 10th in 2018.

Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul is making her fourth appearance in the Amundi Evian Championship this week. In her three previous showings at Evian Resort Golf Club, the 20-year-old has found herself in the top 10 twice, finishing solo fifth in 2021 and in a tie for eighth in 2022. Despite missing the cut in her last two starts at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open, Thitikul has been uber-consistent this season, grabbing seven top-10 results in 11 total starts, including a solo third at the Honda LPGA Thailand, a tie for fourth at The Chevron Championship and a tie for fifth at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Statistically, Thitikul is fourth in scoring average (70.03), fifth in rounds under par (29) and seventh in putts per green in regulation (1.75).

Thursday, 1:15 p.m.* – Allisen Corpuz/Lilia Vu/Ruoning Yin

The first three major winners of the 2023 LPGA Tour season make up group 34 at 1:15 p.m. off the 10th tee. After becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the Honda LPGA Thailand, Lilia Vu captured her second title of the year at The Chevron Championship when she defeated Angel Yin on the first playoff hole. Since that win at The Club at Carlton Woods, Vu has missed four cuts in her last five starts, with a 17th-place showing at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play presented by MGM Rewards being her best result in that span. However, she has some experience at Evian Resort Golf Club, derived from playing in last year’s Amundi Evian Championship and the 2018 Palmer Cup as an amateur..

Ruoning Yin captured the second major of the year, winning by one shot over Yuka Saso at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course. The People’s Republic of China native fired a final-round, 4-under 67 to overcome a three-shot deficit and, like Vu, capture her second victory of 2023 after becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the DIO Implant LA Open. In addition to those two wins, the 20-year-old has recorded four additional top-20 finishes, the best of which is a tie for fourth that came at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro. She is making her first appearance at the Amundi Evian Championship this week so it will be interesting to see how Yin fares considering this venue rewards players with prior experience.

Rounding out this trio is Allisen Corpuz, who joined her groupmates as a 2023 Rolex First-Time Winner after taking home the U.S. Women’s Open title at Pebble Beach. The Hawaii native won by three shots over Charley Hull and Jiyai Shin, carding consistent rounds of 69-70-72-69 en route to victory. Corpuz nearly won in back-to-back starts, finishing solo second at the Dana Open with a 72-hole total of 18-under and has two additional top-five results on her 2023 resume, a tie for third at the HSBC Women’s World Championship and a tie for fourth at The Chevron Championship. While she missed the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship last season, Corpuz is hoping to improve upon that performance and will lean on her recent form and a week’s worth of rest as she looks ahead to the challenge of another major championship.
