CINCINNATI, Ohio | Jodi Ewart Shadoff made the fifth ace of her LPGA Tour career during the second round of the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G at Kenwood Country Club’s Kendale Course. The Englishwoman holed out on the par-3 3rd hole from 161 yards with an 8-iron to record the 14th hole-in-one of the 2023 LPGA Tour season. It’s the 35-year-old’s first ace since the 2021 LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, and while she won’t be around to play the weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio, it was a special moment for Ewart Shadoff, especially considering she actually got to see the ball find the bottom of the cup.
“I hit it really solid. I knew I had to hit a really good one to get it back to the pin. So bounced where I wanted to and just kind of rolled up. I thought it was close, but then all of a sudden it just disappeared,” Ewart Shadoff said. “(I was in) disbelief really. It's nice to see one go in. A lot of the time you don't actually see it go in. There were maybe one or two people in the crowd up there, so we heard them cheer and then everybody else cheered.”
With Ewart Shadoff’s hole-in-one, CME will donate $20,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as part of their CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude. The Challenge is a season-long charitable giving program that turns aces into donations with a minimum guaranteed donation of $500,000 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is leading the way in how the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and life-threatening diseases. The LPGA Tour winner’s ace was the second of the day on Friday, raising the 2023 donation total to $280,000.
Having contributed to the CME Group Cares Challenge in both 2019 and 2021, Ewart Shadoff was happy she got to do it again on Friday at the Kroger Queen City Championship and knows better than most how important this campaign is to the LPGA Tour. “Obviously, really happy to do my part,” she said, “and happy that such a great amount goes to such a good cause.”
