Six-time LPGA Tour winner Celine Boutier collected her second runner-up result of the 2024 LPGA Tour season on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship after finishing one shot behind Hannah Green at Seowon Valley Country Club.

The Frenchwoman carded a bogey-free, 6-under 66 in the final round in the Republic of Korea, with six birdies on her scorecard, five of which came in her last seven holes at the Seowon Hills Course. She posted a four-round total of 18-under, her lowest 72-hole score to par since Boutier shot 21-under at last year’s Maybank Championship, an event she went on to win after defeating Jeeno Thitikul in a nine-hole playoff in Malaysia.

It’s the second time that Boutier has finished second to Green this season, as she also was beaten by the Australian at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore in March, and while she was a bit disappointed to not pick up her seventh career LPGA Tour title in Korea, Boutier was pleased with how she hung tough and pushed through after a slow start to her final round.

“I feel like I played the same game all day,” said Boutier. “I had a lot of opportunities on the front, but I just wasn’t able to convert. And on the back, I was able to hit a few really close, and that gave me confidence. And I was able to get a lot more birdies on the back.”

The 2024 LPGA Tour season has been a steady but quiet one for Boutier. The 30-year-old has made 19 cuts in her 21 total starts this year, but she has only managed to record three top-10 results, two of which have come in her last two events as Boutier tied for ninth in the People’s Republic of China at the Buick LPGA Shanghai before her second-place showing at the BMW Ladies Championship. She does have five additional top-20 results on her 2024 resume, however, one of which was a tie for 19th that came at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club.

While some may be questioning her form this year after she won four times during the 2023 season, Boutier isn’t too bothered by her lack of top-10 finishes in 2024. She knows that even though she is doing everything she can to play her best golf, sometimes you just have to grin and bear consistency and patiently wait for that breakthrough opportunity to come knocking, something that Boutier has been working hard to do all year.

“I think my long game has been really solid for a while now,” Boutier said. “I just haven't been able to score very much, and then the last two weeks, I was able to hit a few rounds really low. So I think that's helped me a lot.”

With the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship looming large, Boutier might be rounding into form at just the right time, particularly with the amount of money that will be on the line this year at Tiburón Golf Club. But for now, the major champion is looking forward to carrying the momentum generated by her performance at the BMW Ladies Championship to her title defense this upcoming week at the Maybank Championship as she works to find victory lane on Tour once again in Kuala Lumpur.

“Hopefully, (this gives me) a little bit of momentum and confidence going into the last few events,” Boutier said when asked what she will take away from this week, “and hopefully, (I will) finish strong.”
