Allisen Corpuz and Lauren Coughlin have clinched their spots on the U.S. Solheim Cup Team with less than 25 days to go until the biennial team competition gets underway at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.

Corpuz will be making her second Solheim Cup appearance after competing in the 2023 edition of the event at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain. The Hawaii native earned 2.5 points for the Americans last year with a 2-1-1 record, winning both of her foursomes matches alongside Nelly Korda and capturing a half point with Jennifer Kupcho in the four-ball matches on day one.

Since the Qualification Period for the 2024 Solheim Cup began at the 2023 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, Corpuz became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links, the first woman to ever win a professional tournament at the storied venue.

She has collected six additional top-10 finishes in that same span, two of which have come this season at the HSBC Women's World Championship, where Corpuz tied for eighth, and the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, where she tied for fifth.

U.S. Solheim Cup Captain Stacy Lewis is looking forward to seeing what Corpuz will contribute to the 2024 team now that she has a year of Solheim Cup experience under her belt. Lewis also knows how valuable a consistent player can be in match play, something that Corpuz more than proved with her performance in Spain last year.

“I’m very excited to have Allisen back for her second Solheim Cup,” Lewis said. “She was a key part of our success last year, especially in her foursomes pairing with Nelly in 2023. Allisen is a solid player across the board, and obviously, a major champion as well, so the team’s thrilled to have her back.”

Coughlin has been on a tear of excellent golf in 2024, becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the CPKC Women’s Open and then collecting her second title just 21 days later at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open in Ayrshire, Scotland. She has earned five other top-10 results, including a tie for third that came at The Chevron Championship and a solo fourth-place showing that came at The Amundi Evian Championship.

The 31-year-old picked up two other top 10s last year after the Qualification Period began at the start of the 2023 season, tying for sixth at the CPKC Women’s Open and tying for 10th at the BMW Ladies Championship. She will be a Solheim Cup rookie and will be the first player since Tammie Green at Muirfield Village in 1998 to tee it up in the event in her home state, as Coughlin hails from Charlottesville, Va.

Considering how strong she has been playing as of late, Lewis is excited to see what Coughlin will do at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, particularly in front of a hometown crowd who are likely to turn out in droves to support their fellow Virginian. She is also hoping that Coughlin’s hot streak continues as the U.S. works to secure their first Solheim Cup since 2017.

“There’s probably no hotter player on the LPGA Tour right now than Lauren Coughlin,” said Lewis of the two-time LPGA Tour winner. “To win two of the last three events and play the way she has been the entire year, it’s been awesome to see. She got onto our radar at the end of last year, and it’s been great to see her play continue to get better in 2024.

“What a cool Solheim Cup this will also be for her with her connections to Virginia, so I’m excited for Lauren to experience the entire week at Robert Trent Jones as a Solheim rookie.”

Corpuz and Coughlin are the last two players to clinch their spots before the U.S. and European Solheim Cup teams are finalized on August 25, following the conclusion of the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews. The European Team will be announced on August 26, and the U.S. Team will be announced on August 27.

The American squad will be comprised of the top seven in the U.S. Solheim Cup point standings and the two highest-ranked players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings who are not already qualified. Lewis will then be allotted three captain’s picks to round out her 12-person team.

The European Team will be made up of the top two players in the European Solheim Cup Team point standings, the top six players in the Rolex Rankings who are not already qualified and four captain’s picks to be made by Suzann Pettersen.
