GAINESVILLE, Va. — The 19th Solheim Cup begins Friday morning at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club with four foursomes matches that are set to be played in the first of five total sessions. The U.S. and Europe have tapped eight players each to duke it out for some early points in Gainesville, Va., matches that are sure to produce some thrilling drama early in the day at the Solheim Cup.

Take a deeper look at just one of the four matches that will be contested on Friday morning:

Match 1, 7:05 a.m. – Charley Hull/Esther Henseleit vs. Nelly Korda/Allisen Corpuz

Veteran Charley Hull will be showing 2024 Solheim Cup rookie Esther Henseleit the ropes in the opening match of the 2024 Solheim Cup on Friday morning as the pair take on Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda and 2023 U.S. Women’s Open champion Allisen Corpuz.

Hull has played in the last seven Solheim Cups and holds a 12-7-3 record that has seen her earn a whopping 13.5 points for the European Team. She has collected 5.5 of those points in the foursomes format, a total matched by her four-ball performances over the years, but the Englishwoman has only earned 2.5 points in singles. On the LPGA Tour this season, the 28-year-old Hull has recorded four top-10 finishes, the best of which is a solo fifth that came just a few weeks ago at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Scotland. She has picked up three top-three finishes on the Ladies European Tour in 2024, finishing solo second at both the Aramco Team Series – Korea and the Aramco Team Series – Tampa, additionally tying for third at the Aramco Ladies International.

Henseleit has played lights-out golf this season, earning four top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, two of which have come in major championships. The Germany native earned her first top 10 of the year with a solo seventh showing at The Chevron Championship, her career-best finish in a major, and then nearly matched it with a T7 performance at The Amundi Evian Championship just a few months later in Evian-les-Bains, France. However, her most notable achievement came at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August, as Henseleit became the first European in the history of the women’s Olympic golf competition to earn a medal when she took silver at Le Golf National just outside of Paris. This is her first time representing the European Team at the Solheim Cup, and she is just the sixth German in the history of the event to compete for the Blue and Yellow.

Korda made headlines earlier this season when she won six events in seven starts from January to May. Five of those wins came consecutively and one of which was her second major victory, as Korda captured The Chevron Championship title at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. This is her fourth Solheim Cup appearance, and she has earned 7.5 points for the Americans with a 7-4-1 record. Foursomes is by far Korda’s best format as the current world No. 1 has collected four points in those sessions over the years, two of which came last year when she played alongside Corpuz in foursomes at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain. Korda has never been a member of a winning U.S. Solheim Cup Team and will be working to rectify that this week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Corpuz was a 2023 Solheim Cup rookie in Spain, but she didn’t play like one in her first appearance in the biennial team competition. The Hawaii native earned a solid 2.5 points for the Americans en route to the first 14-14 tie in Solheim Cup history, capturing two of those points with Korda in foursomes on Friday and Saturday. She’ll be working to once again put some red points on the board for the U.S. at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, feeling much more confident in her game after earning her third top-10 result of the 2024 season at the FM Championship just a couple of weeks ago in Norton, Mass. The 26-year-old tied for fourth that week at TPC Boston, her first top-10 result on the LPGA Tour since she tied for fifth at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give in June. Corpuz also tied for eighth early in the year at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.
