GAINESVILLE, Va. — The first four-ball session of the Solheim Cup will be played on Friday afternoon, and the European Team will be looking to make up some ground as they are trailing the U.S. by two points.

Match 6, 12:20 p.m. – Anna Nordqvist/Madelene Sagstrom vs. Alison Lee/Lexi Thompson

Four former Solheim Cup participants are set to duke it out in match six on Friday afternoon as the Swedish duo of Anna Nordqvist and Madelene Sagstrom will face off against Alison Lee and Lexi Thompson beginning at 12:20 p.m. in Gainesville, Va.

Nordqvist is in her second year as a playing vice captain and is making her ninth Solheim Cup appearance this week in the United States. With a 15-13-3 record, the 37-year-old has contributed 16.5 points to the Blue and Yellow tally over the years, more than establishing herself as one of Europe’s tried-and-true Solheim Cup veterans, having made her debut in the event in 2009. She has earned six top-25 finishes on the LPGA Tour this season, the most notable of which is a T17 showing that came at The Chevron Championship. Nordqvist has also earned two T12 results on Tour in 2024 at the Cognizant Founders Cup and the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. The Swede has collected two top 25s on the Ladies European Tour in 2024, the best of which is a tie for 14th that came at the Aramco Team Series – London.

Sagstrom is making her fourth Solheim Cup appearance this week in Virginia, having been a member of the past three victorious European Teams. The 31-year-old has a 3-5-1 record in the biennial team competition, collecting a total of 3.5 points for the Blue and Yellow in the Solheim Cup, 1.5 points of which she earned last year at Finca Cortesin. Sagstrom has recorded three top-10 results on the LPGA Tour this season, including a runner-up performance at the Cognizant Founders Cup. On the LET, Sagstrom has only earned one top-15 result in 2024, a tie for 12th that came at The Amundi Evian Championship, one of two major championships that the LET co-sanctions with the LPGA Tour. Sagstrom just got married last Saturday and will enjoy her 2024 Solheim Cup debut alongside her now-husband Jack Clarke, who is her partner Nordqvist’s caddie.

Lee is playing in her first Solheim Cup since 2015 and will be looking to better her 1-3-0 record this year at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Her lone Solheim Cup point came in the singles format when Lee defeated Gwladys Nocera on Sunday at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot in Germany. The 29-year-old has racked up four top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour this season, the best of which is a tie for third that came at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship and three of which were ties for eighth that came at the Ford Championship presented by KCC, the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and the CPKC Women's Open.

Thompson announced at the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club that she will be stepping away from full-time competitive golf at the end of the 2024 LPGA Tour season, making this week’s Solheim Cup potentially her last time competing in the biennial team competition. This is her seventh Solheim Cup appearance, and in her six previous starts, the 29-year-old has earned a 9-7-7 record, collecting 12.5 points for the Red, White and Blue since making her debut in the event in 2013. She has earned 5.5 points in the foursomes format and 3.5 points in both the singles and four-ball formats throughout her Solheim Cup career. This season on the LPGA Tour has seen Thompson earn four top-10 results in 14 total starts, the most notable of which is a tie for ninth that came at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club and the best of which is a T2 result that she earned at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give after falling in a playoff to Lilia Vu.
