GAINESVILLE, Va. — The U.S. Solheim Cup Team enters the singles session with a 10-6 lead, and with 12 matches being played on day three at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, there will be plenty of great golf to watch on Sunday.

Take a deeper look at one of those 12 singles matches that could play a pivotal role on the final day of the 2024 Solheim Cup:

Match 24 – Maja Stark (EUR) vs. Lauren Coughlin (USA)

Sweden’s Maja Stark will take on home-state hero Lauren Coughlin in match 24 on Sunday morning in Gainesville, Va. Stark is playing in her second Solheim Cup, having been a rookie on the 2023 European Team that retained the Cup after a 14-14 tie at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain. The LPGA Tour winner earned 2.5 points for the Euros last year, one of which came in foursomes alongside Linn Grant, one of which she captured in singles with a victory over Allisen Corpuz and a half-point of which she claimed with Emily Pedersen in four-ball. This year, Stark has earned just one point, defeating Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho 2 up in the Friday foursomes with Pedersen.

The 24-year-old has collected three top-five finishes on the LPGA Tour this season, all of which came within four starts of each other. Stark tied for third at the Ford Championship presented by KCC and finished runner-up to Nelly Korda at The Chevron Championship just a couple of starts later. She then nearly won again the next week, coming solo second at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro at Wilshire Country Club. Stark has earned two other top-25 results in 2024, tying for 22nd at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and tying for 19th at the Dana Open.

Coughlin hails from Charlottesville, Va., and has been showing up in front of her home crowd this week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. She is undefeated in the three matches that she has played, winning alongside Rose Zhang and Lexi Thompson in foursomes and then capturing another point for the U.S. in four-ball with her fellow 2024 Solheim Cup rookie Sarah Schmelzel. Considering this is her first experience in a Solheim Cup, it’s been an impressive showing from Coughlin, and she will certainly be remembered for all of her contributions to the American squad just down the road from her hometown, no matter what happens on Sunday.

On the LPGA Tour this year, the 31-year-old became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the CPKC Women’s Open and then picked up her second Tour title just 21 days later at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open. She has racked up six additional top-10 results, two of which came in major championships at The Chevron Championship, where Coughlin tied for third, and The Amundi Evian Championship, where she finished solo fourth.
