New sponsor, new date, new format and an expanded 96-player field set the stage for a world-class event; Limited tickets on sale Friday, Feb. 2
LAS VEGAS (January 31, 2024) – MGM Resorts International, the LPGA Tour and T-Mobile today announced T-Mobile as the new title sponsor of T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards scheduled for April 3-7, 2024 at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.
“T-Mobile is proud to partner with the LPGA to further support the women’s game. We’re looking forward to enhancing the player and fan experience and elevating this world-class event in a meaningful way,” said Mike Belcher, T-Mobile’s Senior VP, Business Development and Partnerships.
T-Mobile and MGM Resorts partnered to further elevate an event already regarded as a popular stop by the world’s best players. The 2024 tournament purse will increase 30% from last year’s event and the organizations will cover every player’s hotel expenses.
For the first time on the LPGA Tour, the event will feature a new format combining stroke and match play. Ninety-six players will compete in stroke-play competition from Wednesday-Friday, with a cut to 65 players (and ties) after 36 holes. After the third round, the top eight players will advance to the weekend’s match play competition that concludes Sunday with the championship match.
Ricki Lasky, LPGA Tour’s Chief Tour Business and Operations Officer, said, “The changes made to the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards is a great evolution of the match-play format that has become a staple on the LPGA Tour schedule. We are excited to collaborate with both T-Mobile and MGM Resorts International in showcasing the world's best professional golfers for fans in the Las Vegas area and around the world.”
Nelly Korda, LPGA Tour star and T-Mobile athlete, said, “I’m thrilled that T-Mobile has committed to further supporting women’s golf through this event and as a partner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The new format will test all the players and I look forward to competing at Shadow Creek later this spring.”
For the second consecutive year, fans will have the opportunity to purchase a limited number of tickets and watch their favorite LPGA Tour players compete at the exclusive course owned by MGM Resorts. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. PST via www.axs.com. All MGM Rewards and AXS members will receive access to a pre-sale Thursday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. PST to 10 p.m. PST. The quarterfinals featured eight players from eight international markets, with Thailand’s Pajaree Anannarukarn earning her second career win in a thrilling match over Japan’s Ayaka Furue.
The Players Challenge, a nine-hole charity match featuring National Football League (NFL) stars, will return for its second year and will be played Sunday, April 7 prior to the championship match. More information on this event will be announced at a later date.
