Republic of Korea native A Lim Kim tied the lowest round of the week on Saturday at the Maybank Championship, carding an 8-under 64 to move into a share of fourth with 18 holes remaining in Malaysia.

The major champion has drastically picked up the pace over the last couple of days at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club after opening with a 72 on Thursday. She posted a 5-under 67 in the second round, making one double bogey and seven birdies to climb from T57 to T24 on the leaderboard, and Kim’s 64 in round three has now vaulted her into the top five at 13-under overall alongside Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul and two-time LPGA Tour winner Ayaka Furue.

Kim shot out of the gate on day three in Kuala Lumpur, grabbing a quick birdie on the par-4 1st hole and then ripping off three straight birdies on the par-5 3rd, par-3 4th and par-5 5th holes to race to 9-under for the tournament.

The 30-year-old made her fifth birdie of the round on 10 to climb to 10-under, striking again with a birdie on 12 to sit at 11-under total with six holes remaining. The three-time Tour winner ultimately saved the best for last, finding the green in two on the par-5 18th hole and then running in her lengthy eagle try to polish off her 8-under effort, what’s her lowest 18-hole score on the LPGA Tour this season and her first round of 64 or better since she shot 64 on day four of the 2021 BMW Ladies Championship.

“That's incredible because my second shot, it's not easy, but 3-wood high cut really great. And then incredible putt,” Kim said of her eagle on the final hole at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. “Today, I make a lot of putt and then read is better than first round, but I have one more day, so keep working on it.”

At 13-under, Kim is currently six shots behind her younger Korean counterpart Hye-Jin Choi, who has led the tournament since she first posted the round of the week on day one in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and who will enter the last day of play at 19-under overall.

And with a rather chasmic deficit to try and make up at a venue that’s proven to be quite scorable this week at the Maybank Championship, Kim knows that she’s going to have quite a bit of work to do to chase down Choi. But that isn’t really what she is focused on with 18 holes to play at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

“Honestly, leader score little far from now, but I don't mind is the leader,” said Kim when asked what it would take to catch Choi. “I trust my process tomorrow and then keep working on my game.”

Kim is one of the record-breaking 27 different athletes to collect at least one victory in 27 official events this year on the LPGA Tour, winning right off the bat at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in early February. In addition to that win, Kim has tallied seven other top-10 finishes in 2025, three of which have come consecutively in her last three starts at the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei (T10), the Buick LPGA Shanghai (10) and the BMW Ladies Championship (T3).

So while it’s likely going to take a substantial amount of hustle to find herself in the winning conversation coming down the stretch at the Maybank Championship, keep in mind Kim’s recent form and the positive momentum she generated with her 64 on Saturday.

Kim certainly isn’t one to count out, even with the challenge that awaits her on Sunday in Malaysia.
