Major champion Allisen Corpuz came up just short of earning a spot in the Sunday evening playoff at the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass, carding a 7-under 65 in the final round at Whirlwind Golf Club to finish at 21-under, just one stroke behind the eventual champion Hyo Joo Kim and runner-up Lilia Vu.

But even though she didn’t get to contend for her second career LPGA Tour title in extra holes in Chandler, Ariz., the 27-year-old can still chalk up her week at the Ford Championship as a resounding success, as her solo third showing is her first top-five finish on Tour since she tied for fourth at the 2024 FM Championship.

“I would say, honestly, there is not much I would change about my Sunday round,” said Corpuz, who finished the week tied for fifth in greens in regulation. “I felt like the first three days, I just wasn't hitting it as well as I normally do. So, to feel like I still put myself in the mix and was up there up until the last second, I'm really proud of that.”

Corpuz had a clean scorecard on day four in the desert, picking up seven birdies throughout her round, four of which came consecutively on holes five through eight on the front nine. Her Sunday 65 is Corpuz’s second-lowest score of the 2025 LPGA Tour season, just one stroke behind the 64 she posted in the final round of the Honda LPGA Thailand, and the Ford Championship is the first tournament in which the Hawaiian has posted four straight rounds in the 60s since the 2023 Dana Open at Highland Meadows Golf Club, where she ultimately came solo second.

It had been a minute since Corpuz had found herself battling for a trophy coming down the stretch in a final round on the LPGA Tour, as she had only posted six top-10 results since becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in 2023, one of which was that runner-up showing in Ohio the week after her breakthrough victory.

But an always outwardly calm Corpuz looked incredibly comfortable in contention at Whirlwind Golf Club and is feeling very much encouraged by what she saw from herself in a high-pressure moment at the Ford Championship, particularly one in which she didn’t feel like her game was firing on all cylinders.

“I think it definitely is a comfort thing,” Corpuz said. “(I’ve been) working on a few things the past year. I felt like I haven't really been in this spot in a while, so it's really nice to see all the work come together and at the top of the leaderboard again.” Then, when asked what she would take away from the week overall, Corpuz continued, “I think the grind and knowing you don't have to have your A-game to be contending. When it's there, I'm looking forward to that.”

Like many in this week’s field, Corpuz is scheduled to head to Las Vegas for more desert golf next week, this time teeing it up in the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards at Shadow Creek Golf Course. The tournament begins on Wednesday, and with a turnaround that tight, there will be limited time for Corpuz to make any significant adjustments before facing off against her first opponent in pool play.

But if she was having any doubts about the strength of her game as the Tour enters the meat of the 2025 season, Corpuz can take a lot of solace in the fact that she performed as solidly as she did in a field jam-packed with the world’s top talent at the Ford Championship, using her top-three performance as a confidence booster as she readies for the match-play battle that awaits in Sin City.
