SEOUL, Republic of Korea — The People’s Republic of China Team took on the Australia Team on day two of four-ball play in the 2025 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown. Australian major champions Hannah Green and Grace Kim went up against Epson Tour winner Ruixin Liu and former Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Ruoning Yin in the second session on Friday.

Take a look at how these two matches played out at New Korea Country Club and who put points on the board for their respective teams in Pool A.

Hannah Green/Grace Kim vs. Ruixin Liu/Ruoning Yin

Score: People’s Republic of China wins 1 up

The Chinese duo of Ruixin Liu and Ruoning Yin put the first point on the board for the People’s Republic of China Team on Friday at New Korea Country Club, winning, 1 up, over Australians Hannah Green and Grace Kim in the second four-ball session of the 2025 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown.

Australia came out swinging, winning the first hole of the match with a birdie and maintaining that 1-up advantage until Yin leveled the score with a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. China then won the sixth hole to flip the match and move one ahead of the Aussies, extending their advantage to two when Liu and Yin also won the seventh hole.

Green and Kim got one back when they won the par-5 8th hole to then trail by one, but China answered, taking the ninth hole to once again sit 2 up with nine holes remaining. China climbed to 3 up when the Aussies bogeyed the par-4 10th hole, but Green rolled in a lengthy birdie putt on 12 to win the hole and stop the bleeding, getting herself and Kim back to 2 down.

Green then landed another blow with a birdie on 16 that cut China’s lead to one, but when the two teams matched birdies on 17 and matched pars on 18, it was Liu and Yin who ultimately tallied a point for their team, the first full point China has earned across the first two four-ball sessions.

“Our swing is pretty good, so we just tell ourselves we've got to get it close because putting-wise we're not as good as they are today,” Liu said, explain her team’s mental strategy. “We just tried to knock it close and have a chance. That's what we tried to do, stay patient out there.”

Yin agreed. “I think we played really, really solid. But Hannah and Grace, they made everything. Every time I watched Hannah putt, I felt like she's going to make it. I think overall we both played very solid, and I'm happy about the result.”

It will likely take a sizable effort for China to play their way out of Pool A on Saturday, as they currently trail the United States by three points and the Australians by two, but they aren’t feeling discouraged. In fact, when asked what the mindset is for her team for the last of the three four-ball sessions, Yin, with a serious look on her face, put it rather simply.

“I think if we can win once,” she said, “we can win twice.”

Minjee Lee/Steph Kyriacou vs. Yan Liu/Weiwei Zhang

Score: Australia wins 2 and 1

Australians Minjee Lee and Steph Kyriacou came back from a 2-down deficit on Friday at the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown to defeat Yan Liu and Weiwei Zhang of the People’s Republic of China, 2 and 1, at New Korea Country Club.

Lee and Kyriacou took an early 1-up lead when they won the par-3 second hole, but Liu and Zhang erased that advantage when the former birdied three to tie the match. Liu made another birdie on five to give China the lead, and her and Zhang then moved to 2 up after winning the par-5 8th hole.

Kyriacou birdied the par-4 ninth hole to get back to 1 down, but China erased that effort when they won 10 to once again climb to 2 up with eight holes remaining. A Lee birdie on 12 left the Aussies trailing by one, and the 11-time LPGA Tour winner then made another birdie on the par-3 13th hole to tie the match.

Lee birdied 15 to flip the score in the Australians’ favor, putting them 1 up with three holes remaining. Lee and Kyriacou then won the par-3 16th hole to move to 2 up, ultimately closing out their match on 17 when they matched birdies with their Chinese counterparts.

“We kind of had a little pep talk there on 11, a few swear words so probably can't repeat it here,” Kyriacou said in the team’s post-round interview when asked how she and Lee turned it around. “We started off really slow and didn't really give ourselves many chances and then Minjee started stumping it, and I started holing some things and then it kind of went our way.”

The Australia Team now has two points on the board after the first two days of four-ball play, trailing the United States Team by two points but leading China and Thailand by one point. They’ll need to keep the pedal down on Saturday in hopes of finding themselves in the semifinals on Sunday morning, but it’s a challenge the fiery Aussies are more than ready to tackle in the upcoming third four-ball session.

“I think it's going to be pretty exciting,” Lee said. “I don't know what the other scores are at the moment, but I think we have a good chance come tomorrow, and hopefully we can put up a good show.”
