There’s a new ‘roo on the LPGA Tour, and fans are going to want to jump on this bandwagon.

If you are unfamiliar, meet the one and only Cassie Porter. The Sunshine Coast, Queensland native built up a name for herself Down Under, acquiring numerous titles as an amateur while representing Australia on a national and international stage.

With a promising future ahead, Porter turned professional at the end of 2021 and found herself on the WPGA Tour of Australasia. She gained confidence as a pro and had multiple notable finishes on that tour, with her first professional win coming in January 2023 at the WPGA Melbourne International.

Finally having a win under her belt, she made her way to the U.S. in search of a bigger dream – earning her place on the LPGA Tour. In 2023, she joined the Epson Tour, hoping to sharpen her skills and develop her game, but no one was shocked when she got her first win on U.S. soil during the following season at the 2024 FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.

“Being able to prove to yourself that you can do this is everyone’s goal,” said Porter after winning in Michigan. “But everyone also knows that on the Epson Tour, the seasons out here are a journey, not a sprint.”

And that victory was just the start of her finding positive momentum.

That week was followed by countless top-10 finishes out on the Epson Tour, which ultimately secured her the 10th spot in the season-long Race for the Card.

Her dream of earning LPGA Tour Membership had quickly become a reality.

Porter said in an interview after the Epson Tour Championship at Indian Wells that the moment she earned her card was probably the most emotional part of the year, and she will remember that day for the rest of her life. After the buildup of a whole season, the countless hours spent training, and the blood, sweat and tears had finally paid off.

Porter got her first taste of LPGA Tour life in February at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands in Bradenton, Fla. Before play began, the recent Epson Tour graduate shared where her head was at heading into this new chapter in her golf story and gave some updates as to how she spent her offseason.

The rookie has a sneaky competitive side that she hides very well off the course, but when it’s time to turn up the heat, she starts a bonfire. With her well-deserved time off after the end of the 2024 Epson Tour season, Porter found herself playing in a few tournaments back in her native Australia.

“Keeping my competitive side tame by competing and staying ready for the LPGA Tour was really important,” said Porter early in the week at the Founders Cup. “It wasn’t a chore. I’m a very competitive person, and I really love playing at home, so I couldn’t think of a better way to prep.”

Porter began her LPGA Tour debut strong with one birdie and no bogeys in her first nine holes. She appeared to be calm, cool and collected, the Cassie known and loved on the Epson Tour. Things then took a turn at the turn, and she found herself in some bogey trouble on the back nine at Bradenton Country Club but finished the day at only 3-over. The second round was not so kind to the rookie, who remained in search of a birdie all day and came up empty-handed.

But, as evidenced by Cassie’s career, she has never been a pedal to the metal from the get-go kind of player. Like a nasty bunker shot, she needs to find her footing before hitting the ball like she knows she can. After week one on the biggest stage in women’s golf, Porter walked away without a made cut but likely took with her a bounty of insight as to where the rest of her debut season will take her.

The rookie shared some of her 2025 goals before the tournament, and her mental game is strong enough to make her a player to watch. So, what may appear to others as a letdown tournament should only fuel her fire going forward.

“Being able to stay in myself and achieve my own goals rather than being overwhelmed by the people I’m playing with” was a big part of Porter’s mental preparation for her first year on the LPGA Tour, and the rookie feels like the strongest part of her game right now is her mental game.

“You always go through highs and lows with the physicality of what we do,” said Porter, “but being able to say consistently mentally strong is really important, and I’m pretty proud of where we’re at right now.”

But if you look at her performance on the Epson Tour last year, Cassie Porter doesn’t stay down for long. Early on in her 2024 season, she had an unfortunate streak of three consecutive missed cuts, her only missed cuts of the season, but less than a month later, she found herself leaving Battle Creek Country Club’s 18th green with her first trophy in hand.

So, when you see that infectious smile and happy skip heading down a fairway near you, keep an eye on Cassie Porter, who might just wind up claiming another title for the Aussies, this time on the LPGA Tour.
