The 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Fields Ranch East saw Minjee Lee overcome extreme winds and scorching heat, mentally and physically grinding to claim her third major championship title. The Aussie now has three legs of the Career Grand Slam complete and needs a win at either this year’s AIG Women’s Open or next year’s Chevron Championship to complete the Slam.

Lee started Sunday with the 54-hole lead and never relinquished it. A bogey on hole 10 put her win percentage at 57.1 percent, according to KPMG Performance Insights, but those odds didn’t hold for long as she then went on to make her two longest putts of the day on 13 and 14, launching her win percentage up to 96.3 percent with just four holes remaining.

Minjee Makes History

When the final putt dropped on Sunday afternoon, Minjee Lee walked off the 18th green having been showered with champagne and cheers from the Texas crowd. With her win at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the 29-year-old became the winningest major champion in the 2020s with three total victories. She captured her first major title at The Amundi Evian Championship in 2021 and won her second at the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in 2022.

Lee also joined an elite list of Aussie LPGA Tour members as the third win puts her in a tie for second for the most majors won by an Aussie alongside Jan Stephenson. Lee now only sits behind LPGA Hall of Famer Karrie Webb, who leads the way with seven.

The next major championship for Lee will have some big implications. A victory would move her ahead of Stephenson on the list for most majors by an Aussie, and if she ultimately finds a win at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl, she will become the eighth LPGA athlete to complete the Career Grand Slam and the first since Inbee Park did so in 2015 at the AIG Women’s Open.

Putting Reigned Supreme at Fields Ranch East

The phrase “drive for show, putt for dough” gets thrown around often, but it could not have rung truer this week at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco.

Jeeno Thitikul put on a show on the greens during the first round, rolling in 199 feet 5 inches worth of putts, while the field average sat at just 65 feet. Her strokes gained putting per round for the season coming into the week was +0.85, compared to her first-round strokes gained putting coming in at +6.97.

Her putting dried up as the week went on, and Thitikul’s scores reflected it. Over the next three rounds, the five-time LPGA Tour winner only made 170 feet 11 inches worth of putts, rolling in only two putts from outside 10 feet compared to her seven putts made from 10 or more feet during round one. Overall, Thitikul ended the week in a tie for fourth on the leaderboard, but if her putter had stayed warm, there could have been a different outcome.

No one gained more strokes on the green than the eventual champion, however, with Lee picking up +2.55 strokes per round with her broomstick putter, one she first put in the bag at the beginning of the 2025 season. Lee ranked first among the 156-player field in that metric, and her newfound putting prowess has not been limited to just last week in her adopted hometown of Dallas. She ranked fifth in strokes gained putting heading into the week, a drastic improvement from where she has been over the past two seasons, ranking 137th in 2024 and 125th in 2023.

Tough to Score

Major championship weeks require major championship style courses, and a new major venue made its debut in the women’s game last week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco is a name you will hear more and more as the years go on, with four major championships between men’s and women’s golf taking place at the facility over the next nine years.

In its debut appearance on the LPGA Tour, Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco played as the hardest course in a major championship over the last 10 years, with the final scoring average for the week coming in at 75.60. The last time a course played that difficult was at the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally at Sebonack Golf Club, where the scoring average for the week was 76.

Fields Ranch East saw only three players finish under par for the week, the lowest total in a KPMG Women’s PGA Championship since 2003. DuPont Country Club is the only other course besides Fields Ranch East that had two or fewer players finish under par three times. With plenty of major championships set to be contested at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco in the future, the golf world got a good taste of what this Gil Hanse design can do to the world’s best players.
