The Amundi Evian Championship saw a first-time major winner hoisting the trophy for a third time this season, as Australia’s Grace Kim outdueled Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul to earn her second career LPGA Tour victory.

Kim becomes the second Aussie to win a major championship in 2025, joining Minjee Lee, who won the 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship just under a month ago. The wins from Kim and Lee mark the first time since 2001 that Australians have won back-to-back major championships, as Karrie Webb won the 2001 U.S. Women’s Open and then the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship that year. However, it is the first time in LPGA Tour history that two different Aussies have won back-to-back major championships.

Kim Comes Up Clutch

Walking to the 15th tee on Sunday, Grace Kim had a 0.3 percent chance to win The Amundi Evian Championship, according to KPMG Performance Insights. At the time, Kim trailed then co-leaders Thitikul and Lottie Woad by two shots. Woad was already in the clubhouse at 13-under for the tournament while Thitikul, who was paired with Kim, also sat at 13-under.

The Epson Tour graduate played her next four holes in 4-under, one of which saw her tap in for an incredible eagle on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Thitikul, who had a 98.6 percent chance of winning the championship coming to the 18th tee.

But ultimately, the 18th hole was all Grace Kim throughout the week. She played the closing hole at Evian Resort Golf Club three times on Sunday, doing so in 5-under after nearly holing her second shot in regulation for an albatross, dramatically chipping in on the first extra hole to extend the playoff and making a closing eagle on the second playoff hole to clinch her first major championship title. For the week, Kim played 18 six times and did so in 8-under, highlighting her ability to close out rounds and tournaments, as well as capitalize on reachable par 5s.

Watch Out for Woad

Lottie Woad entered The Amundi Evian Championship as the No. 1 amateur in the world and the most recent Ladies European Tour champion, winning the KPMG Women’s Irish Open just the week before teeing it up in her seventh major tournament. A couple of days after competing in France, Woad announced her decision to turn professional after a T3 finish secured her the 20th and final point she needed to earn Tour status via the LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway.

Her last amateur performance was one for the history books at The Amundi Evian Championship, with Woad’s T3 showing being the best finish ever by an amateur in the event. The 63 the Englishwoman recorded in the final round saw her finish the week with a 271-stroke total, beating the next closest amateur performance by 10 shots, according to KPMG Performance Insights. Woad’s final-round effort included eight birdies and just one bogey.

Woad is set to take on her first tournament as a professional at the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open in Ayrshire, Scotland at Dundonald Links.

Tough Sundays Continue for Thitikul

It was another tough major championship Sunday for Jeeno Thitikul, but in a different sense at The Amundi Evian Championship. At the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Thitikul had a challenging weekend at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco, posting a 76 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday. Despite that weekend performance, however, the Thailand native ended the week in a tie for fourth, nearly tying her career-best result in the championship.

Sunday at The Amundi Evian Championship was a little different for the Rolex Rankings No. 2, as Thitikul posted a 4-under 67, an eight-shot difference from her last major championship Sunday. But the difficulties for the 22-year-old came in the form of breaks that did not fall her way, not necessarily from anything to do with her play.

After Grace Kim hit her second shot in the penalty area near the green on the first playoff hole, Thitikul was in the driver’s seat. Sitting just off the green on the par-5 18th, it looked like a fairly routine up-and-down would secure the five-time LPGA Tour winner the first major championship of her career.

But Kim ended up pitching in for birdie, putting the pressure back on Thitikul to match that effort, a call which she answered calmly and confidently by pouring in a 10-foot putt for a birdie of her own. The second playoff hole had Thitikul in nearly the same position, just off the green in two shots. However, Kim hit another spectacular hybrid into 18 green, setting up an eagle opportunity. A chip on for Thitikul gave Kim an eagle putt to win, which she ended up burying to earn her first major championship victory on the LPGA Tour.

So while Thitikul more than stepped up in the big moment on Sunday in France, it was Kim who came out on top after a brilliant finish. Thitikul now has five top-five finishes in major championships without a win, joining Maria Hjorth with the fifth-most of all time, according to KPMG Performance Insights.
