SEOUL, Republic of Korea — The consolation match to decide the third- and fourth-place teams at the 2025 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown took place on Sunday afternoon alongside the final match at New Korea Country Club.

Starting on the back nine, the Japan Team faced the World Team using the same format as the semifinal matches, with two singles matches and one foursomes match being contested until one team secured two points.

Here’s what happened as the Japan and World Teams faced off for a second time this week.

Ayaka Furue vs. Charley Hull

Score: Hull wins 4 and 3

The first consolation match between Japan and the World Team featured Ayaka Furue and Charley Hull and went off on hole 10, as daylight was becoming limited at New Korea Country Club.

The first singles match was all Hull, who took control early and then piled on. The Englishwoman picked up her first win on the 11th hole and then won four more holes over Furue. Hull headed to the first tee 5 up with just nine holes remaining in her final match in the Republic of Korea.

Hull only needed six more holes to close out Furue, with the match ultimately ending 4 and 3 on the sixth hole. Hull ended her week with a record of 3-1-1, while Furue finished with a 1-3-1 record.

Rio Takeda vs. Lydia Ko

Score: Ko wins 3 and 2

In the second singles match of consolation play, Lydia Ko from the World Team took on Rio Takeda from the Japan Team. Just like Hull in front of her, Ko got off to a hot start, winning three of the first five holes, with Takeda only winning one hole in that same span.

Ko remained 2 up for most of the match, until she made a birdie on the par-4 12th hole, extending her lead to 3 up. That is where her lead stayed until the conclusion of the match, as she ultimately beat Takeda, 3 and 2, and secured third place for the World Team.

Ko ended her week with a 2-2-1 record, while Takeda finished her week at 1-2-2.

Mao Saigo/Miyu Yamashita vs. Wei-Ling Hsu/Brooke Henderson

Score: Japan wins 4 and 3

The final outing in the consolation match was a foursomes matchup between Mao Saigo and Miyu Yamashita against Wei-Ling Hsu and Brooke Henderson.

While the other two matches were dominated by the World Team, Saigo and Yamashita took control early in the final pairing. The duo got out to a 2-up lead after two holes and never looked back. The lead was eventually extended to 3 up as the teams made the turn.

The second nine for the Japan Team saw them lose their first hole on the par-5 fourth hole, but Saigo and Yamashita would win their next two holes to close out the final consolation match, 4 and 3.
