Netherlands native Dewi Weber kicked off her week at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer in style on Friday in Galloway, N.J.

In what’s known to be a 54-hole sprint of an event for the LPGA Tour’s top talent, the 28-year-old shot out of the gate in the first round at the Bay Course at Seaview, A Dolce Hotel, carding a 5-under 66 that saw Weber make three bogeys, six birdies and an eagle on the par-4 4th hole to post her lowest round-one score since day one of the 2024 Portland Classic last season.

Weber struck early with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole but bogeyed 11 to immediately erase that effort. She then picked up a pair of back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 to move to 2-under, which is where Weber stayed until she made the turn. The Epson Tour alum grabbed her fourth birdie of the day on the par-4 1st hole, making another birdie on three to climb to 4-under for the round.

But the highlight of Weber’s day ultimately came on the fourth hole when she holed out for an eagle on the par 4, a shot that helped her jump to 6-under.

“I think we had 110 or so and had a little bit of wind helping,” Weber said. “DT (her caddie) was like, ‘With the lie above the feet, I would like to you start this here.’ I remember him saying right before I pulled the trigger, 'It doesn't really matter where the hole is. We're just going on this line,' which, to be fair, was quite a ways from the hole.

“So I hit it on that line, and the ball did exactly what it needed to do and went to the left, even more to the left because of the wind and the lie once again. I was like, ‘That looks pretty good,’ and then it just disappeared.”

After dunking it for eagle, Weber then stumbled a bit coming down the stretch, carding two bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes to slip back to 4-under, but she did manage to post one last birdie on the par-5 9th hole to close out her round and finish with a 66 to sit near the top of the leaderboard early in the Garden State.

“I didn't really hit any bad shots,” said Weber, who hit 13 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens in round one. “I hit maybe two slightly uncommitted shots. Ninety-five percent of them were just solid hits. Good game plan, somewhat conservative, but they ended up in good spots. I never was that far from the hole, so things were going well.”

This is Weber’s fourth time teeing it up in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, and in her three previous appearances in this event, she has never finished any better than T42, something the Dutchwoman is already well on her way to improving in the 2025 edition of the tournament. This is her eighth start of the season, and thus far, it’s been a fairly steady year for Weber, who has only missed two cuts at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro and the Mizuho Americas Open and finished in the top 30 twice at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands (T23) and The Chevron Championship (T30).

Considering she had limited status in 2024 after finishing outside the top 100 in the Race to the CME Globe in 2023 and then had to go to Final Qualifying last December to improve the status she had for the 2025 season, a steady slate of made cuts is a nice change of pace for Weber. She is currently sitting at 88th in the season-long Race to the CME Globe, and even though that’s likely a little bit too close to 100 to give Weber any surefire comfort with half of the season still to play, the situation she’s currently in is a lot less stressful than in years past for Weber, even though she is still working to improve her game as much as possible.

“It's been alright. I think it would be silly of me to say that I'm having an average or below-average year this year in the sense that I think I'm doing better than I probably have in the past if you look at any stats,” Weber said. “At the same time, I feel like I've been playing better golf than my scores have told you guys, so I know that I can do better, and I know that I can get better results, and it's just me being a bit more patient with certain situations that will help me get those better results.”

Weber will have 36 more holes in New Jersey to finally get a point on her top-10 board this season or pick up her first career LPGA Tour victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, either of which would go a long way in seeing her secure status for the 2026 season without having to return to Final Qualifying at the end of the season like she has already done so many times in the past.

And while she was incredibly pleased with her performance in round one, Weber is turning the page quickly, knowing that she will need to make even more hay over the weekend at the Bay Course if she wants a chance at hoisting a trophy come Sunday afternoon.

“I think what we did today was great. It's a good start,” said Weber. “I think if you start this tournament being around par or over par, you're always a little bit behind. This is nice, obviously, but there are two more days, and with a three-day tournament, you have to keep your foot on the gas. That's what we're going to try to do.”
