It’s difficult to live up to expectations, no matter whether they’re your own or someone else’s. Ask any professional athlete what the key is to having success at the highest level of their sport, and you’ll most often hear that they manage expectations, both the internal and external ones.

Look at someone like Rory McIlroy, who just conquered his internal demons to win The Masters earlier this month, finally slaying the ghosts of failures past at Augusta National Golf Club that have haunted him for the last decade. He’d be the first to admit it was difficult to ignore the pressure surrounding his pursuit of the Career Grand Slam, that the constant noise that increased to a raucous cacophony every time April rolled around was getting harder and harder to tune out.

So, when you consider how much 2025 rookie Ingrid Lindblad has achieved in less than a year as a professional golfer, it’s impressive to think about what the Swede has already pulled off in her young tenure.

She graduated from Louisiana State University in May 2024 and made her first Epson Tour start as a member the next month using the status she earned via 2023 LPGA Q-Series. But Lindblad missed the cut in her first professional tournament appearance, admitting that while it was a bit of a wake-up call to not play the weekend in her Epson Tour debut, she didn’t consider it to be completely out of the realm of possibility.

“(I was) very hyped from college, being No. 1 in the world, and then missed the cut in my first tournament,” Lindblad said to EpsonTour.com ahead of the 2024 Epson Tour Championship. “I was kind of like, ‘Alright, we've gotten that out of the way.’ It's very different from college. You get out here, you don't have your teammates. You don't have your coaches. It's not the same.”

However, despite that unfamiliarity, Lindblad still found a way to succeed. She won her first title as a pro in just her seventh Epson Tour event, hoisting the trophy at the Tuscaloosa Toyota Classic in September of last year after beating Ana Belac by two strokes. That win came at a near-perfect time as it vaulted her inside the top 10 of the season-long Race for the Card and put Lindblad in a prime position to secure LPGA Tour status at the Epson Tour Championship at Indian Wells just a couple of weeks later.

And after a tie for eighth finish in the desert, the young Swede wound up finishing sixth in the Race and earned an LPGA Tour card on her first attempt in just nine starts on the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA.

“It's kind of wild,” Lindblad said. “I was playing Qualifying last fall. I was like, ‘Alright, we'll have to play really well on Epson (in) the starts I do get to get in, and that's what I did. It's been a ride since May, but we out there.”

The Epson Tour graduate teed it up for the first time as an LPGA Tour member at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands, and like she did in her first pro start last season, Lindblad missed the cut at Bradenton Country Club. She then headed to Asia to compete in the Blue Bay LPGA, but a bout of food poisoning led to a late withdrawal from Lindblad in the People’s Republic of China, a one-two punch of early disappointments that could’ve seen a smaller-minded player stumble.

But Lindblad has proven time and again that she belongs among the best in the women’s game, so she just continued forward, finally catching a break with a T38 finish at the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass.

She then skipped the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards and returned to competition at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro, which was held this year for the very first time at El Caballero Country Club while Wilshire Country Club underwent construction.

Few athletes in the field had any previous experience competing at this golf course, so pretty much everyone was dealing with the learning curve that comes with an unfamiliar venue. The 2025 rookie didn’t seem to have any trouble, though, and carded rounds all four rounds in the 60s – one of which was a 9-under 63 – en route to becoming the year’s third Rolex First-Time Winner alongside Yealimi Noh and Rio Takeda in Tarzana, Calif.

Because of her stellar amateur career, a quick title grab once she reached the LPGA Tour ranks was something that many expected from Lindblad. But success doesn’t care about what your past resume says about you. It only rewards the blood, sweat and tears that are poured out in the present, only honors those who are willing to do whatever it takes physically, mentally and emotionally to achieve their lifelong dreams.

And while she definitely put in a lot of work to get herself inside the LPGA Tour winner’s circle as quickly as possible, Lindblad knows that the experience she gleaned from her first year as a professional on the Epson Tour is probably what helped her most in winning so quickly as an LPGA Tour rookie.

“I think the Epson Tour prepared me a little bit for it,” Lindblad said in her winning press conference. “Back in, I think it was January of 2023, we had a camp in Phoenix, and I talked to Anna Nordqvist…she was asking me what my plan was. I said, ‘I think I'm going to play Qualifying in the fall and hopefully get to Q-Series,’ and then I decided to just play Stage II and have my Epson status. I think that was a really good step after college to not go straight out here, trying to get your feet wet a little bit.

“Epson is competitive. You have to shoot 15-under in three rounds to win out there. Sometimes that's not even enough. I think that was a good test after college and a good little step on the staircase in between.”

The Chevron Championship in The Woodlands, Texas was on deck the week after Lindblad’s victory in LA, and despite the exhaustion that comes with becoming a Rolex First-Time Winner, Lindblad made the cut in the first major of the year at The Club at Carlton Woods, another expectation on which she has delivered.

But it’s still much too early in her rookie season to judge how impressive of a career Lindblad will have in future years, even though the Epson Tour graduate already has a tally in her LPGA Tour win column. However, no matter what ends up being thrown Lindblad’s way over the rest of this year, she has clearly already learned a valuable lesson in her young professional tenure.

The Rolex First-Time Winner knows how to tune out the expectations, and that will serve Lindblad well in the long run.
