With three of the season’s major championships now in the rearview mirror, The Amundi Evian Championship is the next target for the best of the best in women’s golf. Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, is cozied into the hillside of the Alps with breathtaking views overlooking Lake Geneva and will play host to the major championship again this year. But, players be warned, the beautiful setting shouldn’t detract from what is very much a major test for the world’s top players seeking to take home a piece of the $8 million purse along with the trophy. Here’s a closer look at what you need to know about both the 132 players competing and The Amundi Evian Championship.

Ayaka Furue Defends

Locked in a three-way tie at the top heading to the 72nd hole of the championship, Japan’s Ayaka Furue thrilled fans by rolling in a 12-footer for eagle on the par-5 18th to win her maiden major title at The Amundi Evian Championship in 2024. The eagle capped off an impressive closing stretch by Furue, who went 5-under on her last five holes en route to capturing her second career victory on the LPGA Tour. In addition to her breakthrough major title last season, Furue also earned the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average of the year. She returns to France seeking to defend her title and is fresh off a tie for 18th in her last start at the Dow Championship, where she competed alongside Narin An. She’s had mixed success in the majors so far this season with missed cuts at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally and a tie for 30th at the Chevron Championship.

The Field

Nelly Korda headlines the field in France as the No. 1 player in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Twice Korda has finished inside the top 10 at Evian Resort with a tie for ninth in 2023 and a tie for eighth in 2022. This week, Korda is making her first start since finishing T19 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and remains in search of her first win of the season.

Like Korda, Jeeno Thitikul has played well at The Amundi Evian Championship, where she has three top 10s. The young Thai star is currently the top-ranked player in women’s golf who has yet to win a major championship and looked poised to break through in her last major start at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, where she faded on the final day and settled for a tie for fourth.

The first three major champions of the season are in the field in France, including Mao Saigo, who captured The Chevron Championship; Maja Stark, winner of the U.S. Women’s Open; and Minjee Lee, who picked up her third career major title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Lee is making her first start since her victory in Texas and is returning this week to the site of her first major victory in 2021, when she defeated Jeongeun Lee6 in a playoff. In addition to Lee’s win at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, she has three other top 10s in 2025.

While the LPGA Tour took off last week, the Ladies European Tour was in action, where several players chose to tee it up, including Madelene Sagstrom, who recorded five birdies in her last eight holes to finish second at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. Charley Hull finished fourth and will look to build on that success in Evian, where she tied for third in 2022.

Co-Sanctioned event

The Amundi Evian Championship is an event that is on both the LPGA and LET schedules, which means the field is split between players from both tours. This year, there are 13 athletes who played their way into the field via either the 2024 or 2025 LET Order of Merit. Mimi Rhodes currently tops the Order of Merit after her stellar start this season, a year in which the 23-year-old already has three wins. While Shannon Tan currently sits at No. 3 in the Order of Merit thanks in large part to her victory at the 2025 Amundi German Masters, she qualified based on her season-ending position in the top seven of last year’s Order, as did England’s Bronte Law. Law has racked up a few top 10s in the early part of the 2025 season on the LET and is ranked 31st in the Order of Merit. She’s making just her fourth LPGA Tour start of the year with her best finish of T7 coming at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.

Amateurs in the Field

Seven amateurs were awarded spots in the field at the fourth major championship of the season, including Lottie Woad, the most recent winner on the LET. Woad earned her maiden professional title at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open after winning by an impressive six strokes over Sagstrom. While the 21-year old said she won’t turn professional just yet, particularly as she has a path to LPGA Tour membership via’s the new LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway, she’ll get another chance to hone her skills against the best in the women’s game and earn the final two LEAP points she needs to qualify for membership when she tees it up this week at The Amundi Evian Championship. Carla Bernat Escuder, the winner of the 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, is also in the field along with Gianna Clemente, Rianne Malixi, Jeneath Wong, Maria Marin and Clarisa Temelo.

Tournament History

The 31st edition of the Amundi Evian Championship gets underway this week in Evian-les-Bains, France, where history has often been made.

The tournament began in 1994 and for five years was solely played on the LET’s schedule until 2000, when the tournament became co-sanctioned by both the LPGA and LET. It was later elevated to a major championship in 2013.

Suzann Pettersen won the first edition of The Amundi Evian Championship as a major, and the following year it was won by Hyo Joo Kim, who recorded a then-record round of 61 en route to her first major title. In 2015, Lydia Ko made history with her win as the youngest major champion at just 18 years of age. In Gee Chun etched her name in the record books the following year when she recorded the lowest winning score in a major championship with her winning total of 21-under.

In 2017, Anna Nordqvist won a weather-shortened championship for her second major title with her playoff victory over Brittany Altomare. Angela Stanford earned her long-awaited first major victory in 2018 when, at the age of 40, she captured The Amundi Evian Championship title in her 436th start. In 2019, Jin Young Ko hoisted the trophy for her second major victory of the season.

The tournament was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned in 2021 with Minjee Lee’s come-from-behind victory. In 2022, Brooke Henderson secured her second major title with her win in Evian, and then, in 2023, Celine Boutier became the first Frenchwoman to win the major championship in her home country. And in 2024, Furue became just the fourth player from Japan to win a major championship on the LPGA Tour.
