Following a three-tournament stint in Europe, the LPGA Tour returns to the U.S. for The Standard Portland Classic. The name might be new, as The Standard has come on board as the event’s title sponsor this season, but the impressive history behind the Tour’s longest-running, non-major tournament remains unchanged. Since 1972, the LPGA’s annual trip to Portland has produced winners from Annika Sorenstam to Lorena Ochoa to defending champion Moriya Jutanugarn. The 53rd edition of the Portland Classic gets underway on Thursday at its longtime home, Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Here’s a deeper look at what you need to know about this week’s Portland Classic.

Moriya Jutanugarn Defends

Coming into the final round of the Portland Classic in 2024, Moriya Jutanugarn trailed Andrea Lee by three strokes. Jutanugarn mounted a Sunday charge with a final-round, 6-under 66 to win by two strokes and earn her third career victory on the LPGA Tour. Since her win in Oregon last season, Jutanugarn has struggled this year to recapture the same sort of flair she found in the final round on that Sunday, as her putter has let her down throughout the year. Jutanugarn returns to Portland with just a single top 10 on her 2025 resume, one that came in her native Thailand, where she tied for fourth. Jutanugarn will be looking to buck the downtrend trend she has been on the past few months in her title defense this week, as she’s missed the cut in eight of her last nine starts.

The Field

Angel Yin headlines the field at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, where she’ll be looking to continue her run of consistency with another strong finish in Portland. Yin has three top 10s in her last four starts and came close to winning last season in Portland, ultimately finishing in a tie for second.

Grace Kim, the newly minted major winner of The Amundi Evian Championship, will hope to build on her success last season in Portland, where she tied for ninth at the end of the week. Also in the field is Rose Zhang, who has battled a neck injury throughout most of the season and who will be seeking to rebound from a missed cut in her last start at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl. Zhang is making just her second start at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, where she missed the cut in her debut in 2023.

Haeran Ryu, who is already a winner this season at the Black Desert Championship in Ivins, Utah, will also be making her second appearance in The Standard Portland Classic, hoping to add another victory to her young resume. Former Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Lilia Vu, who was tied for third in Portland in 2022 and tied for 14th in 2023, is also teeing it up this week.

Long Time No See

LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member Juli Inkster will make a long-awaited return to the LPGA Tour when she tees it up this weekend in Portland. Inkster won the 1999 Portland Classic and is one of several familiar faces who are making rare appearances in Oregon. Natalie Gulbis will make her fourth start of the season this week, and three-time LPGA Tour winners Haru Moon and Christina Kim are also set to compete. Moon is making only her second start of the year, having also teed it up at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, while Kim is making her fourth start of the 2025 LPGA Tour season.

You’re Invited

The Standard Portland Classic extended invitations to several amateurs who will be teeing it up alongside the best athletes in women’s golf. Canada’s Kaylee Chung won the Les Schwab Tires Amateur Open at Columbia Edgewater Country Club to earn a spot in the field in Oregon. Carolina Lopez-Chacarra, recipient of the Inkster Award for 2025, will have the unique opportunity to tee it up alongside the award’s namesake thanks to a sponsor’s invitation. Kiara Romero, the No. 1-ranked amateur who lost last week in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, is also in the field. Romero won the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and plays collegiately at the nearby University of Oregon.

Gina Kim, who turned professional in 2022, received an invitation to return to Portland, where she has had some past success, recording a tie for third in 2023. Kim has enjoyed a hot 2025 season on the Epson Tour after losing her LPGA Tour card at the end of 2024, earning three victories already this year to regain LPGA status for 2026.

Past Champions

Juli Inkster and Moriya Jutanugarn aren’t the only past champions teeing it up this week in Portland, as several other former winners of The Standard Portland Classic are making a return to Oregon. Chanettee Wannasaen, who became a Rolex First-Time Winner here in 2023, will look to pick up her fourth top 10 of the season when she tees it up this week in Portland.

Jin Young Ko, The Standard Portland Classic winner in 2021, will be searching for a spark once more at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, as she remains in search of her first top 10 on the LPGA Tour since The Chevron Championship in April. Hannah Green, who hoisted the trophy in 2019 and was tied for third in 2022, has missed the cut in her last two starts but is hoping to find some form once more in Portland. Stacy Lewis, who picked up her 12th career win with her victory in Portland in 2017, will make her 12th start of the 2025 season when she tees it up this week.

Brooke Henderson, a two-time winner in Portland in 2015 and 2016, has two other top 10s at Columbia Edgewater. The Canadian will try to recapture that same magic when she returns to Portland this week, as she’s in search of her second top-10 finish of the year.
