Hannah Green says the Australia Team hasn’t set up their group chat quite yet, but that’ll definitely be next on the list as she and her fellow Aussies make a quick pivot from the BMW Ladies Championship to the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown.

Green will lead the Australian squad for the second time in her LPGA Tour career, once again earning a spot on the team having also done so in 2023 at TPC Harding Park. This latest opportunity comes on the heels of her standout performance in 2024 when she won three times, and while she has struggled this year to find the same sort of consistency that she displayed last year, Green found a spark on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship, picking up her fourth top-10 finish of the season in her title defense.

All four of the 28-year-old’s rounds were in the 60s in the Republic of Korea, something she has only done four times in her career, and her performance was capped off by a thrilling final round 66, which Green shot to finish in a tie for fifth.

“I put a bit more pressure on myself, but I felt like my game was good. It was nice to have some good results, but I also had some good people to play with. Played with Minjee a couple of times this week. That's nice leading into the International Crown,” Green said about her week in Korea. “But good pairings and hitting better shots makes it better on the golf course.”

On Sunday, Green got off to a blistering start by opening with a birdie on the par-4 1st hole, followed by an eagle on the par-5 2nd hole. The major champion then added another birdie on the par-4 4th and dropped just a single shot on her outward nine after bogeying the par-4 9th hole to go out in 33. Even though she cooled off midway through the round, the defending champion closed with four birdies in a five-hole stretch, a run that was offset by a bogey on the par-3 15th hole for her low round of the week.

“I am really pleased with today's round. I got off to a heater, so it was nice to finish strong with three birdies to end,” Green said. “I had a couple of really wild tee shots, and I made the best par of my life I think on the 10th hole. Knowing that I can bounce back from that, not really think about the negative stuff, and then go to make some birdies, I guess that was what I was proud of today.”

While her T5 finish marks her fourth top 10 of the season, it’s only Green’s first top 10 since April, as she’s endured what she has described as the hardest few months of her career. Green missed four consecutive cuts through the summer, failing to play the weekend at the final two majors of the year, The Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open.

Green was in desperate need of a reset, so she spent three weeks at home in Australia, where she was able to recharge not only mentally but also physically, as she reassessed her golf game. While in Oz, Green was able to spend time with her longtime coach, Ritchie Smith, and together they discovered there wasn’t really anything technically amiss. The six-time LPGA Tour winner was simply overthinking it.

“I think, throughout the season, I was searching to see what I was doing wrong. Usually, at our level, we are always repeating, it might be just a little tweak here and there,” Green explained. “I think because I wasn't having the results, I was trying to search, and it really wasn't that complicated. I was making it tougher for myself. Having a week off with no golf is really helpful at home, and being able to see my coach, I think we both agreed we were searching a little bit too much. Just going back to basics, nothing out of the ordinary.”

Returning to the fundamentals of her game quickly paid dividends for Green in Korea in her first start since returning from her mental and physical reset. It couldn’t have come at a better time, not just for her but for the Australia Team, who will no doubt lean on Green’s talent and skill to try and win the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown, having just lost out in the final championship match to Thailand in 2023.

“We are all very excited, and we are all competitive against one another,” Green said about Australia’s team dynamic. Hopefully, that will show when we are playing on the golf course. We're really excited, and I wouldn't be surprised if we do well, because we have a good team bond, and that is very important for this tournament.”
