For the second time in its three editions, the Maybank Championship was decided in a playoff on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hye-Jin Choi, Hannah Green and Miyu Yamashita were tied atop the leaderboard at 18-under after 72 holes in regulation at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, sending the trio to extra holes to decide a champion.

But it was ultimately Yamashita who buried a lengthy birdie putt on 18 to come from eight shots behind and win for a second time this season on the LPGA Tour, joining Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul as the second athlete with multiple victories in 2025.

Choi led after every round heading into the final day of the Maybank Championship, something the 26-year-old had never done in her LPGA Tour career. She set new 36- and 54-hole tournament scoring records in Malaysia with scores of 130 and 197, respectively, and her T2 result is the Republic of Korea native’s third straight top-12 finish, as she tied for 11th at the Buick LPGA Shanghai and tied for seventh at the BMW Ladies Championship.

The T2 showing is Choi’s second-best result of the 2025 LPGA Tour season behind her solo second finish to Carlota Ciganda at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give in June. Her next scheduled start is The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican in Belleair, Fla.

Hannah Green Green’s tie for second is her second consecutive top-five showing in a stroke-play tournament, as the six-time LPGA Tour champion tied for fifth at the BMW Ladies Championship, a performance that came before she won the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown as a member of the Australian Team and teed it up in Malaysia.

It’s the fifth time that the 28-year-old has finished in the top 10 this year and is her new season-best result on the LPGA Tour, beating out the T4 she recorded in February at the Founders Cup at Bradenton Country Club.

Like Choi, Green is not competing in the TOTO Japan Classic and will make her next start in mid-November at The ANNIKA. Both Choi and Green are currently qualified for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, with Choi sitting at seventh in the year-long Race to the CME Globe and Green now at 38th in the point standings.
