SEOUL, Republic of Korea — The Japan and Sweden Teams competed against each other in the second four-ball session at New Korea Country Club. Miyu Yamashita and Rio Takeda faced off with Madelene Sagstrom and Ingrid Lindblad on Friday in the Republic of Korea, while Japanese major winners Ayaka Furue and Mao Saigo played against Maja Stark and Linn Grant.

Here's how everything played out in both matches on day two of the 2025 Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown.

Miyu Yamashita/Rio Takeda vs. Madelene Sagstrom/Ingrid Lindblad

Score: Japan wins 3 and 2

Rookies Miyu Yamashita and Rio Takeda continued their impressive form in their first International Crown, defeating fellow rookie Ingrid Lindblad and her playing partner Madelene Sagstrom, 3 and 2. The Japanese pair earned a half point in their Thursday match against Lydia Ko and Charley Hull, ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

The match against the Swedes was comfortable for the Japan Team, taking the lead on the first hole with a birdie and then never relinquishing the lead throughout the day. Birdies from Yamashita on holes two and three moved the pair to 3 up in as many holes played, putting them out to a commanding start.

The Swedes showed life during the midway point of the match, with a Sagstrom birdie on the par-3 sixth hole cutting the lead to 2 up. A birdie from Lindblad at the par-4 10th hole put the Swedes just one hole behind.

The Japanese duo bounced back, winning back-to-back holes with birdies again on 11 and 12, but dropped a hole on the par-3 13th with another birdie from Lindblad. The hole was earned right back when the Japan Team won hole 14 with a birdie to go 3 up with three holes to play. Four pars on the par-3 16th hole secured the full point for Japan, moving the duo’s point total to 1.5 points for the week.

“It was nice to win,” said Yamashita. “We did play well like we did yesterday and then like we could make many birdies today, so it was a nice atmosphere, and it was nice.”

Ayaka Furue/Mao Saigo vs. Maja Stark/Linn Grant

Score: Sweden wins 3 and 2

The second match in the Japan-Sweden clash went in favor of the Swedes, with Maja Stark and Linn Grant outlasting Ayaka Furue and Mao Saigo for a 3-and-2 victory, earning their first points of the competition.

The match started off tame, with the groups tying the first four holes of the day before Sweden took the lead in the match for their first time all tournament after a birdie from Stark on the par-4 fifth hole. Two holes later, the lead was extended to two, after another birdie sealed the hole on the seventh green.

The par-4 10th hole was another win for the Swedes, as Stark dropped another birdie to win the hole. Japan won its first hole of the match on the par-3 13th, but by that time, the match felt out of reach. The Sweden Team took the match right back, winning the par-5 14th with a birdie, and then tying the next two holes to win their first full point of the week.

“We had a solid day. I think we both contributed today and just went back and forth. Just kind of very simple. A simple day,” said Grant.
