Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul nearly broke a streak that’s been running since the beginning of the 2025 LPGA Tour season on Sunday at the FM Championship.

Before this week at TPC Boston, there had been 23 different winners in 22 events throughout 2025, one of whom was Thitikul herself, as the Thailand native picked up her fifth career victory at the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National Golf Club back in May, winning by four strokes over Frenchwoman Celine Boutier.

If the 22-year-old had hung on coming down the stretch in Norton, Mass., Thitikul would have been the first player to tally multiple wins this season, but a bogey on the par-4 17th hole ultimately took her out of the conversation late on Sunday at the FM Championship and saw Thitikul finish runner-up to Epson Tour graduate Miranda Wang after posting a four-day total of 19-under.

And while coming up just short of a sixth career title was certainly a disappointment for Thitikul, who has arguably been one of the hottest-handed athletes on the LPGA Tour since last season’s FM Championship, she is taking nothing but positives away from her week-long performance in the Bay State, incredibly pleased with how she showed up in another pressure-packed scenario.

“Feeling pretty good,” said Thitikul, whose solo second performance at TPC Boston is her eighth top-five result of the season. “I think all the work that I have put in on the week off, all I'm trying to do is trying to right directions. And I feel really confident with my irons right now, also my putting. It's kind of boost my confidence finishing second here.”

After posting a 5-under 67 on the final day in Massachusetts, Thitikul was the only player in the field this week to record all four rounds in the 60s, having carded scores of 69, 68 and 65 over the first 54 holes at TPC Boston.

According to KPMG Performance Insights data, the world No.1 has the highest percentage of rounds in the 60s on the LPGA Tour this season, posting a sub-70 score in 55.8 percent of her rounds played in 2025, 11.2 percentage points higher than the next athlete in that metric. Thitikul is also leading the Tour in scoring average, currently possessing a stroke average of 69.30 in the 16 events in which she has competed throughout this year.

And it’s because of her sustained consistency across the latter half of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 that Thitikul was finally able to overtake Nelly Korda and reclaim the top spot in the Rolex Rankings following the AIG Women’s Open, a position she hadn’t held since November 2022, a two-win year that saw the then-rookie become the second Thai athlete in history to ascend to No. 1.

And while some athletes might not be able to handle the pressure of such a moniker as “best player in the world,” the back-to-back top 10s that Thitikul has tallied in her last two starts at the CPKC Women’s Open and the FM Championship point to a mental maturity that belies her youth, one that continues allowing her to take every missed opportunity in stride and apply the lessons she has learned from those close calls to her next experience in contention.

“(The work is) definitely worth it,” Thitikul said. “If I'm not being world No. 1, I still saying we are proud of it and then how far we go from day one until now. No matter what ranking are we, we still have to be the same Jeeno on and off the course for sure. The ranking doesn't define who I am.

“Nothing lasts forever. My position right now, I’m being here today, but definitely one day in the future, I have to let it go for sure. I can't be No. 1 for the rest of my life. I would say what I have been right now, in the world No. 1 now, I just go out there and show them what I have right now. Then no matter what happened out there, I know I have my team that got my back, and then also I have myself. I always got myself back for sure.”

With another week off and a berth in the Kroger Queen City Championship upcoming, Thitikul plans to turn the page quickly on her top-two showing at the FM Championship, ready to move forward in a 2025 season that still has plenty of exciting golf to look forward to.

If anything, this latest near miss has further bolstered her confidence on the golf course and made Thitikul even hungrier to capitalize on her next opportunity, one that she is excited to chase, having gleaned a ton of positive energy from her stellar play at TPC Boston.

“Feeling pretty good,” Thitikul said. “Definitely have the off week again, and I will go watch the U.S. Open tennis, so really looking forward to that before Cincinnati week. Other than that, golf is still good. I had still eating some good food still, and then still being around lovely people.”
